Chuck Norris has died at 86.
The actor’s family announced the news Friday on Instagram.
“It is with heavy hearts that our family shares the sudden passing of our beloved Chuck Norris yesterday morning,” the wrote in the announcement. “While we would like to keep the circumstances private, please know that he was surrounded by his family and was at peace.”
An six-time world karate champion, Norris held black belts in karate, taekwondo, and other martial arts. He served in the Air Force, then opened a chain of martial arts studio in California, where his clients included celebrities like Priscilla Presley and Bob Barker. A role in the 1972 Bruce Lee movie The Way of the Dragon launched his acting career, which included roles in many films. Starting in the early 1990s, he starred as Cordell Walker in the hit TV series Walker, Texas Ranger, which aired for eight seasons.

‘Walker, Texas Ranger’
For many people, Norris is most strongly linked with his iconic role as a no-nonsense Texas Ranger with a talent for the roundhouse kick in the CBS series Walker, Texas Ranger. Norris – who originally intended to become a police officer – felt a close connection to the character.
“I’ve tried to put a lot of Chuck Norris into my characters,” he told Entertainment Tonight in 1993. “And Walker is a lot of me … when this project came to me, about a Texas Ranger, it was the kind of character that I thought I’d enjoy playing week and week.”
Select seasons of Walker, Texas Ranger are streaming for free on Pluto TV and Roku Channel. All eight seasons are available for purchase on Prime Video.
Pluto will also air Walker, Texas Ranger marathons across its Classic TV Drama (12 p.m.- 7 p.m. ET/9 a.m.-4 p.m. PT) and TV Land Drama (7 p.m. – 7 a.m. ET/4 p.m. – 4 a.m. PT) channels on Friday, March 20.
In addition, the free streamer will air a Chuck Norris movie marathon on Pluto TV Action Channel. It begins Friday at 10:45 a.m. ET/ 7:45 a.m. PT and runs through March 21.
‘Lone Wolf McQuade’
Walker, Texas Ranger wasn’t the first time Norris played a Lone Star State lawman. In 1983, he starred with David Carradine in Lone Wolf McQuade as a Texas Ranger tracking down a group of arms traffickers. The movie inspired the later TV series.

‘Sidekicks’
Norris plays himself in this 1992 family-friendly flick about an awkward boy (Jonathan Brandis) who dreams of becoming the action star’s sidekick as a way of dealing with being bullied.

‘The Delta Force’
Norris teamed up with Lee Marvin for 1986’s The Delta Force, an action movie about an elite military teams that steps in to thwart a terrorist hijacking of a plane. It was inspired by the real-like 1985 hijacking of TWA Flight 847 by members of Hezbollah. Norris returned in the 1990 sequel, Delta Force 2: The Colombian Connection.
The Delta Force is streaming for free on Pluto TV.
‘Code of Silence’
This neo-noir action film from 1985 stars Norris as a Chicago cop who is caught up in a war with the Mafia and a group of corrupt fellow officers.
Code of Silence is streaming on Pluto TV and Tubi.
