‘Survivor’ 50 Cast: Cirie Fields, Mike White, Season 49 Winner Return for Landmark Season
The countdown is on! We’re roughly two months away from the premiere of Survivor 50 on February 25, and anticipation is high. CBS is pulling out all the stops for the milestone season, assembling a who’s who of 24 past castaways (going all the way back to the first season, in 2000) to compete for the $1 million prize.
In a twist, Survivor is putting the 50th season in the hands of those who love the show best: the fans. Earlier this year, viewers voted on key elements of the game, including “Idols or No Idols,” “Final Four Fire Making: Keep It or Lose It,” and “Live Finale and Reunion Show in L.A. – or Keep the Winner Reveal and Aftershow in the Jungles of Fiji.” The players won’t know what the fans voted for until they are competing on the island.

Casting ‘Survivor’ 50 was ‘difficult,’ Jeff Probst said
The process of narrowing down the Survivor 50 cast from roughly 750 past players was both a thrill and a challenge, Probst said earlier this year.
“Trying to figure out who we want to represent Survivor 50 has been the most exciting, I would say, and simultaneously, single most difficult thing any of us have ever done. And that is not me blowing smoke,” he said (via YouTube).
“We started with a list of 200 people,” Probst continued. “And we’re like, ‘Eh, I could actually see any of these people representing the season.’ And then we got it down to 100. And we got it to 70 [and that] was the first difficult cut where we’re all like, ‘Man, now it’s getting bloody.’”
Some fans have called for a super-sized season with dozens of players. But Probst said that simply wasn’t practical from a production standpoint. So, he was focused on his goal of a core group that represented “all types of players spanning all the eras.”
“An array of people who have slept, bled, battled this ever-changing game design for the last 25 years,” he said. “Because really, Survivor 50 is a representation of everyone who has ever played and the fans who have been with us for the entire time.”
Survivor 50 kicks off with a special three-hour season premiere on Wednesday, February 25 at 8 p.m. ET/PT. Episodes also stream on Paramount+.
