‘Teen Mom’ Catelynn Lowell Says Daughter Vaeda Is ‘Crying About Carly’ Every Night
At just 16 years old, MTV’s 16 and Pregnant stars Catelynn Lowell and Tyler Baltierra made the profound decision to place their daughter, Carly, up for adoption. Brandon and Teresa Davis adopted Carly and raised her in North Carolina with her younger brother, Graham. Initially, Brandon and Teresa agreed to an open adoption. However, they later decided to close communication with the Teen Mom stars, leaving Catelynn and Tyler reeling. Recently, Catelynn expressed how her daughter, Vaeda, cries for Carly every night. Here’s what she said.
‘Teen Mom’ star Catelynn Lowell says her daughter, Vaeda, cries for sister Carly every night
Over the years, Teen Mom star Catelynn Lowell has spoken openly and honestly about the emotional complexity of placing her first daughter, Carly, for adoption. She maintains that the decision was made out of love and a desire to give Carly the best possible life. However, the choice has never stopped weighing heavily on her heart. Catelynn has often described the experience as both heartbreaking and healing. She feels grateful that Carly has a stable, loving home, but grapples with missing out on daily moments.
Catelynn and Tyler Baltierra’s complex relationship with Carly’s adoptive parents, Brandon and Teresa, adds to their turmoil. In an early 2025 episode of Teen Mom: The Next Chapter, Catelynn revealed that Brandon and Teresa decided to block her and Tyler. Brandon and Teresa said they chose to block the famous couple for their mental health.
In May 2025, Catelynn expressed how her daughter, Vaeda, cries for Carly. Catelynn and Tyler share Novalee, 10, Vaeda, 6, and Rya, 3. She appeared to discuss Brandon and Teresa’s decision to back away.
“Lately, I’m putting Vaeda to bed every night, and she’s crying about Carly, you know?” Catelynn said, according to audio posted to Reddit. “So, it’s like, it’s hard. It doesn’t just affect me and Ty. It affects the whole entire family unit.”
Fans think Catelynn Lowell set her kids ‘up for heartbreak’ by constantly discussing Carly
Teen Mom fans are divided on Catelynn Lowell’s recent commentary regarding Carly and her other kids. While some fans retained sympathy for Catelynn’s plight, others think she focuses too heavily on Carly, which negatively affects her other children.
“This is so sad!” a fan commented on Reddit. “As her mother, you set her up for heartbreak … so very sorry for Vaeda and the other kids; they have completely failed them. Their parents’ choice to place Carly is not their burden to carry; shame on them for making those kids feel like they aren’t enough and they aren’t a real family because they don’t have Carly. Horrible parenting.”
“I don’t think she’s crying because she misses Carly, I think she cries because she’s being compared constantly to Carly, like she was their golden child, and f*** our other kids,” another fan wrote.
“It is not Brandon and Teresa‘s responsibility or their problem that Vaeda is crying every night because you keep bringing up Carly, a daughter that you gave away for adoption,” yet another fan commented.
The ‘Teen Mom’ star recently expressed ‘regrets’ she has over the adoption process
In a May 2025 episode of Teen Mom: The Next Chapter, Catelynn Lowell and Tyler Baltierra traveled to New York to celebrate the 16th anniversary of 16 and Pregnant. While at the event, Catelynn caught up with Maci Bookout McKinney. Maci asked Catelynn how she feels now about her past decisions.
“I get asked a lot, even more recently, like, ‘Do you regret your decision?’ And I don’t regret my decision, but I regret not picking a family in Michigan,” Catelynn said. “I regret not picking a family that wanted a completely open adoption; I regret not hiring a lawyer to help me understand what I’m signing.”
“You didn’t know any better, though,” Maci said.
“Yeah, but all the adults should have helped me,” Catelynn added. ” … I was a child. Now that I’m older and look back on it, I feel like I was very coerced and manipulated.”
