As of May 2025, Teen Mom stars Catelynn Lowell and Tyler Baltierra’s relationship with their daughter Carly remains distant. Despite their initial agreement for an open adoption, they have not seen Carly in over two years. Catelynn has expressed her belief that Carly’s adoptive parents, Brandon and Teresa Davis, have effectively closed the adoption by limiting communication and blocking her attempts to stay in touch. She feels this decision is detrimental to Carly and her siblings, as it prevents them from forming a meaningful relationship.

Catelynn would love to sustain a relationship with Carly. A Reddit user posted alleged texts between Catelynn and an alleged high school “friend” of Carly’s. According to the friend, Carly knows that Catelynn and Tyler want to get in touch with her.

“Did you know that her parents are monitoring everything as they are very worried and scared?” the friend texted.

In another part of the conversation, the friend allegedly texted Catelynn that other high schoolers find Carly to be “pretty” and “kind and loving.” The friend noted that “so many people” like Carly in school, and she’s become quite popular.

Catelynn appeared skeptical at first. However, she then hoped the friend would relay her messages to Carly.

The ‘friend’ alleged that Carly feared the media would discover the texts

According to Carly’s alleged friend, Carly worried about what might happen if MTV or the media got hold of the texts.

“Carly has expressed that only thing she is freaked out about if it gets put on the show or the media that she contacted you guys and her being in so much trouble [sic],” the friend texted the Teen Mom star.

To that, Catelynn promised that she would “never” leak anything to the media.

Catelynn also told the friend that another alleged friend of Carly’s told her and Tyler that Carly didn’t want contact with them. This left Catelynn feeling “confused.”

As the texts continued, Catelynn hoped for further proof of the friend’s legitimacy, but the alleged friend couldn’t give Catelynn the info she hoped for. The following day, the friend texted Catelynn that Carly was happy the communication “worked” but still felt “very nervous” about getting caught.

Teen Mom fans on Reddit discussed whether they believed the texts had legitimacy. Many fans thought Catelynn sent her side of the texts. However, the alleged “friend” likely wasn’t real.

“I actually think that this is Cate, but the person she’s talking to is a catfish, which in the grand scheme of things is the lesser of the two, as it’s Cate who believes it and doesn’t seem to mind that she’s talking to, in her mind, a minor,” a fan commented. ” … Surely if Carly wanted contact, she would find a way to do it; she’s 16, not 4, and it’s 2025, not 1960.”

“She’s definitely getting catfished,” another fan wrote. “Those texts do not sound like a teenager. ‘Carly has expressed …,’ ‘She is very kind and loving ….’ The use of ‘yes’ instead of ‘yeah’ — not using contractions or any sort of teen shorthand.”
