‘Teen Mom’: Mackenzie McKee Leaves Hospital After Body Takes ‘Rapid Turn’ From Preeclampsia
Mackenzie McKee, star of Teen Mom: The Next Chapter, is embracing a new chapter of her own as she and fiancé Khesanio Hall prepare to welcome twin girls. At 30 years old, McKee is navigating this pregnancy with a deep sense of gratitude, especially after previously undergoing a tubal ligation. Her journey to conceive again involved in vitro fertilization (IVF), a process she shared openly with fans on social media and MTV. Unfortunately, Mackenzie recently posted that she left the hospital after experiencing preeclampsia symptoms. Here’s what she alerted her fans to.
‘Teen Mom’ star Mackenzie McKee told fans she’s exhibiting preeclampsia symptoms
Teen Mom star Mackenzie McKee isn’t having an easy pregnancy. She openly discussed managing her type 1 diabetes throughout the pregnancy by utilizing advanced technology, including insulin pumps and continuous glucose monitors, to ensure the health of her babies. In late May 2025, she took to social media to tell her fans that she exhibited preeclampsia symptoms.
“In the past 48 hours, my body has taken a rapid turn of preeclampsia symptoms,” she explained from her car, according to a clip posted to Reddit. “And I have gained 20 pounds in 48 hours of water weight. I was looking at my feet, ankles, and legs, and I just started seeing them get bigger, and bigger, and bigger throughout the day. And then it got to a point where I can’t walk.”
Preeclampsia is a pregnancy complication causing dangerously high blood pressure and high levels of protein in the urine. It can lead to complications, like organ failure or death, in the mother and babies.
Mackenzie headed to the hospital after these symptoms developed. The doctors checked her blood pressure and found proteins in her urine. Mackenzie received an official preeclampsia diagnosis.
Mackenzie McKee left the hospital after another doctor told her the preeclampsia didn’t appear ‘bad enough’
Mackenzie McKee noted she felt worried about the preeclampsia diagnosis, but she didn’t fear for the life of her twins. Then, while at the hospital, a doctor she didn’t recognize approached her. The new doctor explained that they had a shift change, so the previous doctor left.
“She’s like, ‘Yeah, we’re not gonna take the babies,'” Mackenzie noted. “I’m like, ‘OK? I have preeclampsia.’ She said, ‘Well, it’s not bad enough, but I will call a doctor who is high risk, and you can talk to them. But that won’t be until tomorrow. So, basically, you can go home and get comfortable, or I’ll see you tomorrow.'”
“So, I’m very defeated,” the Teen Mom star continued. “I felt like I was getting somewhere and then took 10 steps back. It amazes me that they want you to cook twins for as long as possible, no matter what condition you’re in. Or maybe I’m at the wrong hospital.”
Mackenzie added that she feels “mentally drained” by the process. She also feels unclear about the doctors who treat her. “All of them have different opinions,” she noted.
‘Teen Mom’ fans warn that she should stay in the hospital
Mackenzie McKee’s story about leaving the hospital with a preeclampsia diagnosis has Teen Mom fans concerned. Many fans didn’t agree with Mackenzie’s plan to go through with IVF and undergo another high-risk pregnancy.
“She reeeeally should have stayed in the hospital,” a fan commented on Reddit.
“Am I supposed to feel bad for her?” another fan wrote. “She knowingly chose this for herself and all of her kids. I hope the kids come out healthy despite her selfishness.”
“Type 1 diabetes patients have a significantly higher chance of getting preeclampsia; she should have stayed at the hospital — who cares the cost!” another fan commented.
