At just 15 years old, Teyana Taylor choreographed Beyoncé’s 2006 music video for “Ring the Alarm,” a pivotal moment that showcased her exceptional talent and launched her career in the entertainment industry. Taylor’s journey to this achievement began when she gained attention for her viral dance moves, notably the “Chicken Noodle Soup” dance, which caught the eye of Beyoncé’s team. Invited to teach Beyoncé some of these Harlem-inspired moves, Taylor impressed the superstar. This collaboration led to Taylor being credited as the choreographer for the “Ring the Alarm” video. Beyoncé recognized Taylor’s work on the video and later invited her to participate in the MTV Video Music Awards performance of the song, even though Taylor was too young to perform on stage.

In October 2025, Taylor spoke to LeBron James on Uninterrupted’s The Main Thing about Beyoncé seeing her star power early in her career.

“I had one job — I was there to teach her the ‘Chicken Noodle Soup’ …,” Taylor explained. “… So, and you know, I went into doing a whole bunch of other things. I’m like, we could do this, we could do that. Boom. And it was just such a fun experience. And I think, you know, being able to work with Bey is when I knew for sure where I was going to take it, right, as an artist myself.”

Taylor noted that she was just 15 when she got the call to work with Beyoncé in New York. “I was like, ‘Hey, ya’ll! Hey everybody!’ And she’s like, ‘She’s a star.'”

“We face-to-face, knees bumping,” Taylor continued. “… To see her be able to take direction and not feeling like, ‘Girl, you only came here for one little thing.’ … And then she brought me back for the VMAs. So, I thought that was pretty cool.”

The choreographer says Beyoncé told Jay-Z she was a ‘star’

Teyana Taylor’s work with Beyoncé at such a young age led her on a path to success.

“She was just so amazing,” Taylor told LeBron James. “And that’s one person that will forever have my respect. You know, this is a wicked, wicked industry.”

Taylor made a notable appearance in Jay-Z’s 2007 music video for “Blue Magic,” where she showcased her exceptional dance skills. At just 16 years old, Taylor’s performance as a background dancer in the video highlighted her talent. She explained to James that working with Beyoncé helped her dance in that video.

“That’s how I got in the ‘Blue Magic’ Jay-Z video,” she explained. “She was the one that put the word in. And it’s just like, I remember meeting Hov. Security introduced me, like, this is our newest little star. He’s like, ‘She ain’t no f***ing superstar. I’m like, ‘Man, what’s up, I’m Teyana Taylor. I work with Beyoncé.’ So he’s like, ‘Oh, maybe you is a star.'”

Taylor noted that Beyoncé wasn’t around when she interacted with Jay-Z. “So, when I danced, she turned around and said, ‘I told you she was a star! I told you she was a star!'” Taylor said. “It was just so cute to see how she’s always rocking for me.”

Teyana Taylor says the ‘Cowboy Carter’ singer’s pride in her inspires her to keep working

In September 2025, Teyana Taylor opened up to Marie Claire about how Beyoncé continues to inspire her to keep pushing forward.

“No matter where I’ve ever been, whatever challenges I was going through, wherever I’ve been in my career, feeling stagnant or feeling unseen or unheard, to just hear Beyoncé tell me how proud of me she is, no matter where I am in my life and my career, really inspires me to keep going and just keep following my heart and following my gut,” she said.
