‘The Hills’ Alum Spencer Pratt Announces Run for LA Mayor
From The Hills to higher office.
Reality TV alum Spencer Pratt is running for mayor of Los Angeles, he announced Wednesday.
“Yes, it’s official. Papers are filed and campaign is open: mayorpratt.com,” he wrote on Instagram.
Pratt announced his candidacy on the one-year anniversary of the Palisades Fire. The blaze destroyed hundreds of homes in the coastal community, including the one Pratt shared with his wife, Heidi Montag, and their children.
The former MTV star has been vocal in his criticism of current LA mayor Karen Bass (who is running for reelection) and the way she and the city have handled the disaster and its aftermath. He has also taken aim at California Governor Gavin Newsom, accusing him of not taking steps that could have prevented the wildfire and of making it more difficult for people to get insurance to cover their homes in fire-prone areas.
“A hard day will be made even harder watching these elected officials spew platitudes after lighting our town on fire and taking no real action in the aftermath,” Pratt wrote on his Instagram Story on January 7.
“I grew up in the Palisades. I moved through the streets thinking my two boys would grow up here just like I did, with that same hometown feeling,” he said at a rally Wednesday where he announced his candidacy. “Then, right before my eyes, the future I envisioned for my family burned to the ground … all of this was preventable.”
In addition to Bass and Pratt, other candidates include Austin Beutner, the former superintendent of the LA Unified School District, and community organizer Rae Huang. The primary is set for June 2026.
