The Housemaid director always knew he wanted a Taylor Swift song in his new movie. But he was stunned when she actually agreed to let him use the track.

Swift’s 2017 song ‘I Did Something Bad’ plays during a key moment in the juicy thriller, which stars Sydney Sweeney as the titular housemaid, a young woman with a mysterious past, and Amanda Seyfried as the wealthy woman who hires her.

Paul Feig knew the song was “perfect” for the moment, but he assumed it was “never gonna clear,” he told Deadline at the film’s red carpet premiere.

“Well, that’s the thing; you want to put a Taylor song in your movie, but she and her company have to approve it,” the Bridesmaids director explained.

“So, we were tempting with it, and we were like, ‘It’s so perfect, but she’s never gonna clear this,’” he continued. “Then we showed she and her people the movie, and she approved it. So, I guess she likes it. Thank you Taylor!”

Feig isn’t the only thrilled that Swift gave the song’s use her stamp of approval. Sweeney told People that the track was “perfect” for the movie.

“We were like, ‘We can’t lose this!’ We were like, ‘You have to keep this!'” she said.

Though Swift is one of the best-selling music artists of all time, her songs don’t often appear in films. In 2022, she wrote the song “Carolina” for the movie Where the Crawdads Sing after expressing her love for the best-selling book. It plays over the end credits of the film. She also collaborated with Zayn on the song “I Don’t Want to Live Forever” for the 50 Shades Darker soundtrack and worked with Andrew Lloyd Webber on a new song for the 2019 movie Cats.
