How does ‘The Madison’ fit into Taylor Sheridan’s ‘Yellowstone’ universe?

The Madison centers on the emotionally charged journey of the Clyburn family as they leave behind life in New York City and relocate to Montana’s Madison River Valley. At the heart of the story is Stacy Clyburn, played by Michelle Pfeiffer. Stacy is a wealthy matriarch struggling to navigate her grief and reconnect with her loved ones in a quieter environment. Her husband, Preston Clyburn, portrayed by Kurt Russell, stands by her side as they face the complicated process of healing. Beau Garrett, Elle Chapman, Patrick J. Adams, Amiah Miller, Alaina Pollack, Ben Schnetzer, Kevin Zegers, Rebecca Spence, Danielle Vasinova, Matthew Fox, and Will Arnett also join the main cast members.

The series blends family drama with moments of resilience as the characters grapple with loss and identity. So, how does it all fit together with Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone universe? Director Christina Alexandra Voros spoke to Variety about the connection. While the storylines don’t intertwine, Yellowstone and The Madison take on the same “landscape.”

“It’s such a different story,” Voros explained. “The common ground is the landscape. We are in Montana, but it is seen through a completely different lens, so it feels like another facet of this cut stone that has been polished. There are parallels in the scope of landscape and a human being’s place in that space, but it’s coming at it from a completely different point of view.”

It’s also important to note that The Madison takes place in present-day 2026. Yellowstone also took place during contemporary times. The first season began in 2018, and the final season aired in December 2024. With this in mind, the events in The Madison would likely occur well after the events in Yellowstone. Marshals, which premieres in March 2026 and was not written by Sheridan, also takes place after Yellowstone. The Dutton Ranch will also reportedly take place directly after the Yellowstone finale.

While Yellowstone fans might be disappointed by the idea of The Madison being more of a stand-alone show than an offshoot of the beloved original, we’re excited to see this intimate work from Sheridan.
