‘The McBee Dynasty’ Star Steven McBee Jr. Claims Locked-Up Dad Was Victim of a ‘Trophy Prosecution,’ Wants Presidential Pardon
Steven McBee Jr. wants to free his dad.
The McBee Dynasty star was recently a guest on the Like a Farmer podcast, where he opened up about Steve McBee Sr.’s next move after he began serving two years on fraud charges late last year. Top of the list: seeking a pardon from President Donald Trump.
“There are obviously a lot of steps involved in asking for a pardon,” the younger McBee said. “He’s getting all the documentation together. There’s quite a process to get the paperwork side of things ready to go.”
‘The McBee Dynasty’ star was subject to a ‘targeted attack’
In addition to the paperwork, there’s a PR side of the pardon campaign, McBee Jr. added. In the case of his father, who in November 2024 pleaded guilty to a multi-million dollar federal crop insurance fraud scheme, that involves sending the message that the Missouri farmer is an innocent victim of a malicious government prosecutor.
“[T]hen you publicly spread awareness about what you’re trying to do — the situation at hand — and what he’s gone through, and what our farm has gone through, which was a targeted attack on a family farm. It was a trophy prosecution,” the Bravo star explained.
The McBee’s “family farm” is a 40,000-acre farming and cattle operation in northwest Missouri. The operation is carrying $70 million in debt, it was revealed in The McBee Dynasty Season 2. Shortly before McBee’s sentencing, the business defaulted on a $1.3 million loan, according to reports.
As McBee Jr. works with his brothers to keep the family business going while their dad is behind bars, he’s also networking with key figures who might be able to help the McBee family patriarch. One person the family has connected with is Todd Chrisley, another reality TV personality convicted of fraud. The Chrisley Knows Best star and his wife, Julie Chrisley, received pardons from Trump in May 2025.
”You try to bring awareness to it, and you try to get it into the hands of the right people who are connected. … You just network your way through the political spectrum and try to work your way on up to the right people to hear it,” McBee Jr. explained. “And it’s still tough. I mean, we’re still going through that, and we aren’t hiding any of it.”
Steven McBee Jr. teases season 3 of family’s Bravo show
McBee Jr. hinted that viewers would see some of those efforts in The McBee Dynasty Season 3.
As for McBee Sr., his son says he’s keeping his spirits up as he serves his time at a federal prison camp in Yankton, South Dakota.
“He is the most optimistic, positive person I’ve ever met in my life,” McBee Jr. said.
“I think that’s what’s going to make this season so interesting,” he continued. “This isn’t after the fact, after all this went down we’re now filming and talking about this in the past tense. We’re filming this season as we’re going through, candidly, the toughest time in our lives. And we’re not hiding from it. We’re facing it head on. We’re facing the public head on.”
The McBee Dynasty is streaming on Peacock.
