Prime Video has revealed the first look at season 2 of sultry spy drama The Night Manager

The 2015 series starred Tom Hiddleston as Jonathan Pine, a former British military officer turned luxury hotel manager who is pulled into a web of conspiracy involving arms trafficker Richard Roper (Hugh Laurie). Now, more than a decade later, Pine is back for another round of international intrigue in the show’s highly anticipated second season.

The first season of The Night Manager was based on the book of the same name by John le Carré. The best-selling author did not write a sequel to his 1993 novel, so it’s up to the show’s writer to envision what’s next for Pine.

The Night Manager Season 2 will take the story in “a fresh and original direction,” according to Prime Video, which will stream the show in the U.S. and most other countries. (It will air on BBC in the U.K.) Set in the present day, it finds Pine living as Alex Goodwin, a low-level MI6 officer running a quiet surveillance unit in London.

Pine’s life as Goodwin is uneventful until a chance sighting of one of Roper’s old mercenaries drawing him into a violent encounter with a new player: Colombian businessman Teddy Dos Santos (Babylon’s Diego Calva).

As he pursues Dos Santos, Pine connects with Roxana Bolaños (Camila Morrone), a businesswoman who reluctantly agrees to help him infiltrate his target’s Colombian arms operation.

“Once in Colombia, Pine is plunged deep into a deadly plot involving arms and training of a guerrilla army,” the synopsis reads. “As allegiances splinter, Pine races to expose a conspiracy designed to destabilise a nation. And with betrayal at every turn, he must decide whose trust he needs to earn and how far he’s willing to go before it’s too late.”

In addition to Hiddleston, several cast members from The Night Manager Season 1 will return for the new season, including Oscar-winner Olivia Colman as Pine’s handler, intelligence officer Angela Burr.

As far as we know, Hugh Laurie won’t be back as the suave but menacing Roper. (His fate was left uncertain in the season 1 finale, but it’s implied he met a violent end.) But Alistair Petrie will reprise his role as Roper’s financial director Sandy Langbourne, and Michael Nardone returns as Roper’s henchman Friday. We’ll also see more of Roper’s son Daniel Roper, played by Noah Jupe. Douglas Hodge is back as Burr’s superior officer Rex Mayhew.

New cast members include Indira Varma as Mayra, Paul Chahidi as Basil, and Hayley Squires as Sally.
