The Pitt Season 3 is already generating early buzz. The gritty medical drama continues to build on its reputation for real-time storytelling inside a high-pressure emergency department in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. While official plot details remain under wraps, the upcoming season is anticipated to expand on lingering character arcs and introduce new crises in modern medicine. And fans should expect to see a few of their favorites returning. So, will Patrick Ball’s character, Dr. Frank Langdon, come back for season 3? Here’s what to know.

Will Dr. Frank Langdon return in ‘The Pitt’ Season 3? What to know about his character

The Pitt‘s Dr. Frank Langdon stands as one of the most complicated characters in the hospital. Broadway star Patrick Ball plays the seasoned attending known for his sharp instincts under pressure. Langdon spent much of The Pitt Season 2 grappling with the fallout of previously stealing prescription drugs to support his addiction. This act put him at odds with Dr. Michael “Robby” Robinavitch before Robby’s planned sabbatical.

So, is Ball returning as Langdon in season 3? It appears so. Supriya Ganesh, who plays Dr. Samira Mohan, will not be returning next season. In light of this, Dr. Robby actor Noah Wyle commented on “inevitable” cast shakeups — and Ball had a hilarious response to the idea that Langdon might not return.

“It’s an inevitability that’s going to happen every season with this show because as writers we’re hard pressed to figure out what a lapse of time we can have and keep most of the ensemble together realistically,” Wyle said, according to Variety. “Emergency rooms have a high revolving door. As always, we try to bring in new characters or promote from within as we go through these cast changes and try to keep the storylines fresh, but obviously, Supriya has been a huge part of our show since the beginning.”

In response, Ball commented, “Gulp,” on Instagram.

The actor is ‘standing by’ to see what his character’s future holds

Patrick Ball spoke to Gold Derby about what the future holds for Dr. Langdon in The Pitt Season 3. He said he trusts in the show creators to do his character justice in the ever-changing landscape of the series — and he also seemed to verify that he’ll be returning for the foreseeable future.

“I have learned to trust in John Wells, and Scott Gemmill, and Noah [Wyle],” he said. “I try not to really get involved, or guess where we’re going, or try to throw my hat in the ring. They have been creating television at an incredibly high level for a very long time. As an actor who comes from the theater, the playwright is God. My job is to take what they give me and figure out how to interpret that and bring that to life. And so I am just standing by and can’t wait to see what their plan is, because I guarantee you it’s better than anything I can come up with.”

All in all, it seems fans should expect permanent change in Langdon’s behavior following season 1.

“I think there are certain things that have absolutely changed about Langdon, and I think there are certain things that can’t, and I think the wisdom is knowing the difference in controlling what you can control,” Ball told the publication. “I think Langdon is doing everything he can to do the next right thing, but it’s early days still. It doesn’t happen overnight.”
