The Voice Season 27 showcased a dynamic coaching lineup with John Legend, Michael Bublé, Kelsea Ballerini, and Adam Levine. While the season featured standout performances, it also sparked fan discussion about the show’s format and judging decisions. Many viewers expressed concerns over the rapid pace of the live shows, which only lasted two weeks, leading to significant eliminations in short timeframes. So, are changes coming for The Voice Season 28? Here’s what a production insider alleged in light of the criticism.

‘The Voice’ production insider says the show’s format is its ‘biggest obstacle’

The Voice Season 27 followed the show’s traditional format. Coaches John Legend, Michael Bublé, Kelsea Ballerini, and Adam Levine started with the Blind Auditions, where they listened to contestants without seeing them, turning their chairs only if they were impressed by the voice alone. If more than one coach turned, the contestant chose whose team to join. The competition then moved to the Battles and Knockouts, where team members faced off in head-to-head performances, with their coach choosing who advanced. Coaches could also “steal” artists from rival teams during this stage. The final phase — the Live Shows — featured weekly audience voting, where viewers determined the contestants’ fate, leading to the crowning of a winner in the season finale.

“The show’s format is by far the show’s biggest obstacle,” a production insider told The U.S. Sun. “It’s a tough recipe to follow. The blind auditions, nothing gets better than that. That’s the show’s bread and butter and what put the show on the map. Now, everything after that? The show is still figuring it out as they go, even 27 seasons in.”

The insider noted that The Voice Season 28 will feature changes following complaints from season 27. Some fans believe that the show’s top talent often gets the boot too soon due to the show’s format.

“The show hears the complaints loud and clear,” the production insider added. “The people who make the show also want the best talent possible to make it to the finale, but some of that is not in their control.”

Fans who watched The Voice Season 27 “live” finale might feel led astray. The top five finalists — Adam David, Jaelen Johnston, Renzo, Lucia Flores-Wiseman, and Jadyn Cree — showcased their vocal prowess in a series of duets with their coaches and solo performances. The finale also featured special performances by former coaches Kelly Clarkson and Blake Shelton, adding to the star-studded event.

Viewers were excited to see Clarkson and Shelton take the stage. However, a source told The U.S. Sun that Clarkson didn’t actually sing live. The singer likely couldn’t get to Los Angeles for the finale due to her hectic filming schedule with The Kelly Clarkson Show. The insider added that Chance the Rapper, Joe Jonas and Shelton also didn’t attend.

“After each of their performances, the show tossed it back to host Carsen Daly, who reacted live to the singers after a screen showed the studio pre-taped performances,” the insider explained. “The show works its editing magic to make it all look live, but it’s not.”
