‘The X-Files’ to Stream for Free on Pluto TV Starting January 1
The truth is out there – and it’s streaming for free on Pluto TV.
All 11 seasons of cult favorite series The X-Files are coming to Pluto TV on January 1, the streamer announced on Monday.
Fans will be able to stream all 218 episodes of The X-Files either on-demand or on a dedicated 24/7 linear channel in Pluto TV’s sci-fi category. The category already includes dedicated channels for Star Trek, The Twilight Zone, Stargate, and Doctor Who.
The channel kicks off on New Year’s Day with a complete chronological run through of the series, followed by curated weekend marathons.
The X-Files starred Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny as FBI agents Dana Scully and Fox Mulder who investigate strange crimes and mysterious phenomena. It aired for nine seasons from 1992 to 2002. A two season revival aired from 2016 to 2018. The show, which won 15 Emmys, also spawned two feature films, 1998’s The X-Files and 2008’s The X-Files: I Want to Believe.
Recently, there’s been chatter about another X-Files revival. Sinners director Ryan Coogler has said he wanted to put his own spin on the show, Variety reported. Anderson has indicated she’d talked to Coogler about the project.
“I have spoken to him, and what I said was, ‘If anyone were to do it, I think you would be the perfect person’, and ‘Best of luck, best of luck. Call me,’” she said during an appearance on This Morning in April 2025 (via Digital Spy). “If the phone rings and it’s good, and it feels like the right time… perhaps. That’s what I said.”
