Kandi Burruss is in Todd Chrisley’s corner.

Recently, The Real Housewives of Atlanta star faced criticism after congratulating Todd’s son Chase on his parents’ presidential pardon. Some of her fans weren’t impressed with her support of the Chrisley Knows Best stars, who were convicted of a multi-million dollar fraud scheme in 2022.

The Bravo star refused to back down, defending her comment in a June 3 post on X.

“What’s the problem? Todd & I were cool before he ever had this legal issue,” she wrote. “I’m happy that him & Julie are out of jail. What y’all so pressed for? Me being happy for them has nothing to do with my political beliefs.”

Burruss stood firm in her position. But Todd was apparently worried that she might face repercussions for aligning herself with him and his family.

“When I showed love to him I did get a little negativity online,” Burruss told ET’s Kevin Frazier on the red carpet at the BET Awards on June 9. “I don’t know why … of course I’m happy for my friend, you know what I mean?”

Todd actually contacted her to make sure everything was OK, she shared.

“He was just reaching out, telling me he doesn’t want to get any backlash because of him,” she said. “And his concern was more about me, which I thought was crazy.”

Burruss added that she thought Todd’s comments about wanting to advocate for people in prison following his release were genuine.

“I think he’s definitely a voice,” she said. “You got to remember, he always cared about minorities and issues that dealth with minorities. He’s raising a daughter who’s a young Black woman, you know what I mean? So of course those issues, even if it doesn’t affect him personally, it affects him.”
