Tom Selleck Has ‘Slowed Way Down’ Since ‘Blue Bloods’ Ended
Tom Selleck is embracing a more low-key approach to life post-Blue Bloods.
Since the CBS cop drama ended a year ago, the TV icon has been taking things slow, an insider recently told Closer Weekly. While the 80-year-old actor is keeping busy on his beloved California ranch, he’s not pushing himself as much as he once did.
The ‘Blue Bloods’ star is keeping ‘his spirits up’ after the show’s end
“Tom’s finally taking his foot off the gas, and it’s a huge comfort to everyone who cares about him,” the source said. “For years, he was go-go-go around the ranch, tearing around on his ATV, and taking on projects like he was still in his 40s, but these days, he’s embracing a much more low-key routine.”
The Magnum P.I. star hasn’t formally retired. But he has “slowed way down since [Blue Bloods] ended,” another source said. That’s a relief for his wife of 38 years, Jillie Mack.
“[T]hankfully, he has Jillie to help keep his spirits up,” the source said. “She’s thrilled to have him home more, and he’s certainly grateful to have more time to go on long walks with her and cuddle up on the couch.”
Will Tom Selleck appear on ‘Boston Blue’?
While Blue Bloods ended its 14-season run in December 2024, the story of the Reagan family continues in spinoff series Boston Blue, which premiered in October 2025. The show, which stars Donnie Wahlberg as Danny Reagan, has already welcomed Blue Bloods alums Marisa Ramirez as Maria Baez and Bridget Moynahan as Erin Reagan in guest appearances. Could the Reagan family patriarch, Frank Reagan, also make the trip to Boston? It’s a possibility, Wahlberg recently said.
“Of course, I spoke to Tom the minute I was deciding if this was something I was going to do. And I can’t really get into the details of those conversations, but he’s been very supportive,” Wahlberg told Parade.
“I can say, would I love for Tom to come up to Boston? Sure. Or would I love Danny to go to New York and visit Frank? Absolutely, yes,” the NKOTB member continued. “Tom’s always going to base his decisions on the work and material, and so yes, of course, I’d love to work with him on the show, and when the time comes, we will hopefully craft an idea that moves his heart and makes him want to do it.”
Selleck has also expressed an interest in revisiting his Jesse Stone character in a new movie. He played the Massachusetts police chief in nine made-for-TV films between 2005 and 2015.
“Jesse is a great character, and it would be fascinating to find out where he is quite a few years later,” Selleck told TV Insider in 2024. “But I need to regroup; I don’t know what’s next, but assuming the phone doesn’t stop ringing, I’m going to keep working.”
