These ‘Traitors’ Contestants Think They’re Good Liars — A Body Language Expert Said This Isn’t True
Contestants on The Traitors: New Blood may use the act of deception to their advantage while competing for the cash prize. Lying isn’t easy for everyone, though. According to a body language expert, a handful of contestants think they’re good liars, but they’re actually more transparent than they might think.
A body language expert doesn’t think these contestants on ‘The Traitors’ are good liars
On The Traitors: New Blood, Kim Daly lied about her law career, instead opting to say that she is a coach. Body language expert Inbaal Honigman with Casino.ca said that she clearly showed signs of deception when she shared this.
“When Kim lies about her profession, standing at the station, she’s uneasy and nervous, shuffling her feet and furrowing her brow,” she said. “Kim thinks she’s a good liar, but she’s actually quite transparent.”
The traitors ultimately murdered Kim. If she remained in the game, though, Honigman believed she would have struggled.
“In the armchair, Kim’s arms are wide, using honest, open body language,” she explained. “Her throne of lies will collapse early and she’ll struggle to play the game.”
She also believes that Xavier, who was selected as an accomplice, might be overly confident.
“Talking about his career and skills, Xavier falls into the trap of believing his own hype. He uses his whole body to talk, moving his shoulders, head and hands, glowing with enthusiasm and confidence,” she said. “It is exactly this overactive way of talking that will be his undoing. He thinks he can analyse the movements of others, but his own movements will give him away.”
Another contestant appears nervous about lying
Joe Vanella is one of the Traitors this season. Honigman believes that he could struggle in this role as he doesn’t seem comfortable with lying.
“When he walks around the station, he holds his arms wide to the sides, openly and honestly. He will struggle to lie,” she said. “Sitting down for his interview, Joe’s thumbs rub together, already nervous before anything has really begun.”
She said that other ‘Traitors’ contestants have a better chance of winning
Joining Joe as a Traitor is Tomica Adams. Honigman noted that she appears to be a far stronger liar.
“On the train, Tomica’s tongue touches the roof of her mouth for an inordinate amount of time. This shows that she finds it easy and natural to hold her tongue, and only say the right thing at the right moment. She’d be a proficient liar and a great secret-keeper.”
Honigman also noted that Tomica seemed confident in her ability to do well.
“Talking to camera, Tomica laughs and nods as she speaks. She is neither nervous nor worried; she’s here to win and she’s got a great chance.”
She also thinks that people will naturally gravitate towards Shane. This could help him in the game.
“When Shane sits, when Shane walks, his physical moves and his face remain the same in all situations,” she said. “His body language consists of a broad and confident physical stance, as well as calm and neutral facial features. His unchanged demeanour will make the others trust him easily, as his stable presence will exude a sense of comfort.”
The Traitors: New Blood airs on NBC on Thursdays at 8 p.m. ET.
