‘Unexpected’ Alum Has Warning for Potential Cast Members Ahead of Premiere of New Season With 13-Year-Old Dad
An Unexpected alum has a warning for teens who might see be “inspired” by the TLC show.
Tyra Boisseau was a ‘damn mess’ on ‘Unexpected’
Tyra Boisseau, who appeared on several seasons of the reality show about young parents, took to TikTok to share a message with people who might tune in to the new season, which premieres February 16.
“So many people ask me if I think me being on a young and pregnant show inspired other young teenagers to go out and get pregnant,” Tyra said. “If you watched me on that show, I was a damn mess! I wouldn’t want to be like me on a show. I can’t even watch it.”
“If I did inspire you [to try to get pregnant], number one, I’m sorry,” the mom of two continued. “Being a mom is not always easy. It’s the most rewarding job but it’s not always easy. It’s very hard, especially doing it that young and still trying to accomplish your dreams while being a mother. So, you should have free range to accomplish your dreams without that added on struggle and stress.”
Tyra welcomed her first child at age 18 and had another at 22.
“Being responsible for another human before you’ve ever had to be responsible for yourself is hard,” she added.
New season of ‘Unexpected’ features 13-year-old dad
Tyra’s comments came ahead of the premiere of Unexpected Season 7, which features an all-new cast of young parents-to-be. One of the spotlighted dads is Hunter, 13, who is expecting a baby with Bella, 15.
The inclusion of such a young dad in the new season has raised the eyebrows of some TLC viewers.
“13 years old and becoming a dad is WILDDD,” one commented on Instagram.
“My daughter will be 13 this year and this made me wanna throw up,” another person wrote.
“I just can’t. 13!!! Kids are so fast to grow up that this type shit happens,” someone else chimed in. “Having a baby is a blessing but not at 13. You’re life hasn’t even started.”
One person on Tyra’s TikTok asked if she had thoughts on Unexpected adding a 13-year-old to the cast.
“Yes!! Many people have asked for my opinions on that too,” she wrote. “Not sure if I should share or not! Might make a video on it.”
Unexpected premieres Monday, February 16 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on TLC. Episodes also stream on HBO Max.
