Usher Praises Diddy’s ‘Valuable Contributions’ in Controversial Interview
In October 2025, Sean “Diddy” Combs received a prison sentence after receiving a conviction on two counts of transportation for prostitution. And during the investigation, all eyes were on the celebrities who associated themselves with Combs through the years. Usher maintained a close relationship with Combs through the years. He even received mentorship from the mogul when he was a teen. In 2026, Usher stands by Combs’ “valuable contributions” he made to music.
Usher credited Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs for his ‘contributions’ to the music industry
Usher Raymond IV and Sean “Diddy” Combs have a long and complicated relationship that dates back to the early 1990s. As a teenager, Usher lived with the Bad Boy Records founder in New York. During that time, Combs played a major role in shaping Usher’s early career, exposing him to the music industry and helping develop his artistry and business instincts. Usher has since credited him with teaching discipline and entrepreneurship, often describing him as a formative influence and even a “mentor.” However, in later interviews, Usher also reflected on that period as intense and at times unsettling, recalling that he witnessed “very curious” or “wild” aspects of Combs’ lifestyle.
In March 2026, Usher sat down with Forbes to discuss his own legacy. And he mentioned that Combs experienced misrepresentation following the public legal battle in 2025.
“I mean, this might be a bit controversial, but in the same way I think many people choose to look past the reality of what our country is, the standards that we now stand on, we can’t ignore the reality of the history,” Usher said. “In many ways, I think certain people are prosecuted and maybe not recognized for the greatness that they offer. I don’t have anything negative to say about Sean Combs because my experience was not what the world has seen and how he’s been misrepresented.”
“I’m not saying that every man is perfect,” he continued. “I’m not saying that all of us don’t have flaws. But I can’t with any sense of humanity not recognize the valuable contributions that this man made for us as Black entrepreneurs, for us as businessmen, for us as people who have transitioned culture and ideas into something that’s tangible.”
Usher added that he puts “respect” on Combs’ name because he learned his business sense from the mogul.
“There are trials and tribulations that come with the pressures of success and power,” Usher continued. “But what we choose to do with it is what I hope that you see with me and hopefully other people that I’m involved with.”
Usher said his ‘superpower’ is ‘translation’
During the Forbes interview, Usher commented on his “superpower” after discussing Sean “Diddy” Combs.
“My superpower? Translation,” Usher said. “I think that God has given me the ability to be a vessel. And I think it is a superpower that I was blessed with, to be able to move myself into all of these different spaces and add value and understand how to maximize all of what it has to offer, rather in business or rather in creativity, as an actor, as a producer, as a curator, as a businessman, as an entrepreneur. I think all of those things suit what God gave me is that gift of being able to be that translator.”
Yung Miami says her support of Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs impacted her brand
Caresha “Yung Miami” Brownlee spoke on The Breakfast Club in March 2026. During Sean “Diddy” Combs’ sexual abuse allegations, she wrote a letter in support of him. As a result, she experienced backlash, and her brand felt the impact.
“I think I wrote a letter for a changed man,” she said. “I think that the man that I met and that I experienced was changed. I’m not gonna justify some bulls*** or like, support some bulls***. I felt like the person that I met was changed. It was a different experience, so that’s why I wrote the letter.”
Unfortunately, she said she lost “deals,” “money,” and “relationships” after writing the supportive letter. “I lost a lot,” she added. “The only person I try to trust is God and my kids.”
