A new series is climbing the Netflix charts.

On December 1, the streamer added all three seasons of Victoria to its library. The romantic period drama stars Jenna Coleman as the long-ruling British monarch and Tom Hughes as her devoted husband Prince Albert. The show originally aired from 2017 to 2019 on ITV in the U.K. and on PBS in the U.S.

Victoria is the perfect binge watch for fans for of shows like The Crown, Queen Charlotte, The Empress, or Downton Abbey. And Netflix viewers proved they were eager to eat up the story of the young queen navigating her sudden ascension to the throne and her relationship with a handsome German prince. As of December 3, the show is sitting at No. 7 on the Netflix’s top 10 list of most-watched shows.

But there’s some bad news for anyone who falls in love with Victoria. The show has only three seasons and ends on an unresolved note. In the final episode, Albert collapses shortly after the opening of his Great Exhibition as a panicked Victoria calls for help. History buffs will know that Albert survives this incident. (He died a decade later, in 1861, at age 42.) But we’re still left wondering how Victoria will manage he husband’s health crisis.

Plus, there’s the question of what happens to Sophie, the Duchess of Monmouth (Lily Travers). After her villainous husband freed her from her captivity (on orders from Victoria) she was on the verge of running away to America with the footman Joseph (David Burnett). Will she choose love or remain in England with her abusive husband and young son?

‘No plans’ for ‘Victoria’ Season 4, ITV has said

After Victoria Season 3 aired, both Coleman and series creator Daisy Goodwin hinted that a fourth season might be in the works.

“I am working on series four at the moment and that’s going to be an absolute humdinger, because… well, you can go to Wikipedia to find out!” Goodwin told Digital Spy in March 2019.

“Somebody dies and someone new comes on the scene, so there is a lot to play with there,” she added. “I’ve really got back into it and am really enjoying writing it.”

In early 2021, Coleman said she and the show’s creators were “in the process of discussing” how future episodes of Victoria might play out.

But later that year, U.K. broadcaster ITV threw cold water on the idea of a season 4.

“There are no plans presently to film Victoria, but that’s not to say we won’t revisit the series with the production team at a later date,” a representative for ITV told Radio Times in July 2021.
