‘Virgin River’ Stars Celebrate Early Season 8 Renewal: ‘Commitment Is Sexy’
Netflix is headed back to Virgin River. On Thursday, the streamer announced that it had renewed the small-town romantic drama for an eighth season. That makes it Netflix’s longest-running original scripted series.
‘Virgin River’ Season 8 coming to Netflix

The Virgin River renewal news comes ahead of the show’s season 7 release. The cast and crew recently wrapped production on those episodes, though a premiere date has not yet been announced.
“On behalf of myself and the whole Virgin River family, we’re eternally grateful to Netflix and to the fans for allowing us to continue on this journey with these beloved characters,” showrunner Patrick Sean Smith told Tudum.
Virgin River cast members also celebrated the renewal news on social media.
“#virginriver keeps on keeping on!” series star Alexandra Breckenridge, who plays nurse Mel Monroe, wrote on Instagram.
“Virgin River is officially Netflix’s longest-running scripted series,” Zibby Allen, who plays Brie Sheridan, wrote on Instagram. “Turns out, commitment is sexy. See you back in town for Season 8. THANK YOU for the continued love and support. It’s epic.”
“Here we go AGAIN! Season 8 baby! Makin’ history,” Brady actor Ben Hollingsworth wrote on his Instagram Story.
What’s next for ‘Virgin River’?
In season 6, Mel finally said “I do” to Jack (Martin Henderson). Season 7 will pick up with the couple as they settled into married life, Smith said.
“Season 7 will find Mel and Jack taking their first steps into marriage as they start to plan for and build a life and family together. Meanwhile, Doc and Hope will work together to protect the clinic and the integrity of the town from outsiders,” he shared.
Fans will also presumably get answers about what happened to Jack’s ex-girlfriend Charmaine (Lauren Hammersley) who vanished in the cliffhanger season finale. They may also get to see Jack and Mel as parents. Mel’s struggles with infertility have been a major storyline throughout the show. In the last moments of season 6, she learned she might finally get the chance to become a mother when pregnant teen Marley (Rachel Drance) suggested that Mel and Jack adopt her unborn child.
While Netflix has not confirmed when Virgin River Season 7 will premiere, Deadline predicts that it likely won’t be this year. Although a December 2025 release date is possible, January or February of 2026 is more likely.
Virgin River Seasons 1-6 are streaming on Netflix.
