Bethany Joy Lenz and Benjamin Ayres star in ‘When Calls the Heart’ prequel

Hope Valley: 1874 stars Bethany Joy Lenz, Benjamin Ayres, Jill Hennessy, Roan Curtis, and Lachlan Quarmby.

Lenz plays Rebecca Clarke, a single mother from Chicago who is starting a new life in the Canadian West with her 11-year-old daughter Sarah (Mila Morgan). When her wagon breaks down and she realizes the boardinghouse is not as advertised, Rebecca must accept help from local rancher and confirmed bachelor, Tom Moore (Ayres).

Bella has every intention of remaining unattached in her new life. But she can’t help but fall for Tom. Meanwhile, she also develops a friendship with Hattie Quinn (Hennessy), a tenacious pioneer woman. Hattie’s daughter Olivia (Curtis) helps run their trading post and catches the eye of Constable Alexander Vaughn (Quarmby), much to the dismay of Clayton (Jedidiah Goodacre), the blacksmith who harbors feelings for her.

Other cast members include Brad Abramenko as Tom’s foreman Nash and Chelsea Hobbs as his wife, Peggy.

“We came west searching for a new life,” Lenz’s character says in a teaser for the new show. “We discovered we are not alone. We found possibilities all around us … What we’re building is more than just a home. We’re building hope.”
