Welcome to Plathville premiered in 2019. It follows Lydia and other members of her conservative Christian family, including her brother Ethan Plath, her sister-in-law, Olivia Plath, and her parents, Barry and Kim Plath. But not all the Plaths opted to participate in the series.

Barry and Kim’s eldest daughter, Hosanna Plath, does not appear on Welcome to Plathville. She and her husband, Timothy Noble, are musicians who tied the knot before the show premiered. They travel around the U.S. with their children as part of their Christian music ministry, according to their website.

While Hosanna is not part of Welcome to Plathville, she’s very much a part of Lydia’s life.

“She is amazing. I have a great relationship with her,” Lydia, 21, said during an appearance on the September 10 episode of The Jinger & Jeremy Podcast. “I have been so jealous of her for so many years for choosing this.”

Lydia continued, “I used to say, ‘I’m going to be like my oldest sister and just get married and not be on the show anymore.’ Her and her husband just chose to not be part of the show and raise their family on the show, which I respect so much.”

“They’re really special. They’re really caring, in a lot of ways,” Lydia’s husband Zac Wyse added. “It’s always great to [be with them].”

Lydia and Zac’s bond with Hosanna is in contrast to that of her siblings, Moriah Plath and Micah Plath. In 2021, they told Us Weekly that they didn’t see their sister often, with Micah explaining that he was “not like super close” to Hosanna.

‘Welcome to Plathville’ star has considered quitting the show ‘many times’

Lydia also told Jinger and Jeremy that she often considered following in her sister’s footsteps and stepping away from the cameras.

“There have been many times where it’s just like, ‘I’m done. I can’t do this.’ After every season, I’m always like, ‘I’m not doing another one. Like, this is too much.’ I can’t tell you how many times I was at my wits’ end. I was done,” Lydia continued. “Like, I was on one of my many walks, talking to the lord, like, ‘God, I am not going to do another season. I am just not going to do it.’ And then I was like, ‘OK, I’m not going to unless you show me that you really want me to … and every time I got to that position, the very next message I would read would be someone going deep into how my story had impacted them.”

It was the feeling that she was connecting with viewers by sharing her story that convinced Lydia to continue with Welcome to Plathville despite the stress of filming and the fractures the show has caused in her family.

“Those comments don’t always come up in my messages,” she added. “But every time without fail, whenever I was like, ‘God, I’m not going to do this anymore. I can’t do this anymore. Like, I’m not seeing any fruit; it’s hurting in my own life. Is it actually worth it? And then right there, someone telling me how deeply it’s impacted them.

Welcome to Plathville airs Tuesdays at 10 p.m. ET/PT on TLC. Episodes stream on HBO Max.
