‘Welcome to Plathville’ Star Lydia Plath Refuses to Comment on Ethan’s Behavior at Her Proposal: ‘That’s Gossip’

Lydia Plath is staying above the fray. 

Recently, the Welcome to Plathville star took to Instagram to share details about husband Zac Wyse’s romantic proposal, which fans saw during the August 12 episode of the TLC show. But she’s not going to get into what happened before he popped the question, when some members of her family tried to derail the couple’s big moment.

Lydia Plath was completely surprised by Zac Wyse’s proposal 

Lydia and Zac had only been dating for a few months when they started talking about marriage. While the two were seriously committed to the idea of spending the rest of their lives together, she was still unprepared when he actually asked her to marry him. Zac had managed to pull off a surprise proposal involving her whole family, much to the shock of Lydia, who thought her boyfriend was in another state.

“The minute we pull into the cabin, I know what’s happening … I see my whole family standing there,” she recalled in a video shared on Instagram on August 17. “[And I realized] the work that Zac put into it … I was so weak and in shock and excited and in disbelief and everything.” 

Lydia has fond memories of her and Zac’s engagement, but many viewers felt Lydia’s big moment was marred by the behavior of her brothers, Ethan Plath and Micah Plath, who took the opportunity to haze their sister’s future husband. Ethan also bluntly questioned Zac’s sexuality in a sneak peek at the show’s August 19 episode.

But Lydia isn’t focusing on her brothers’ actions. 

“I know you all want me to talk about my brothers and everything they were doing, but 1, this story was about my experience leading up to the proposal and Zac protected me from a lot of that so I could enjoy the moment,” she captioned the post. 

“I’m not gonna speak ABOUT my brothers without talking TO them first, because that’s gossip and It only adds to the problems and not the example I want to set,” she added.

While Lydia didn’t address the conflict between Zac and her brothers directly, she did say that one reason he organized such an elaborate proposal was because he knew how important her family was to her. He also wanted to quiet their doubts about their relationship.

“I know poor Zac had to go through so much to make that happen,” she said. “And he wanted my whole family to be there because he knew how much I loved and cared for them, despite everything that was happening.”

“He wanted to prove to them that he wants to include them,” she said. “And he wants to know them and for them to know him.”
