Where Are They Now? TLC Shares Update on Car Lover Featured on Original ‘My Strange Addiction’
Love works in mysterious ways. Just ask Nathaniel, a man featured on the cult-favorite TLC reality series My Strange Addiction.
Nathaniel appeared in a 2012 episode of the show, where he opened up about being in a “serious relationship” with his car, which he named Chase. The then 27-year-old explained that he felt an “instant connection” to the sporty red vehicle, calling it “love at first sight.”
Nathaniel’s unusual choice of a partner raised the eyebrows of those who knew him personally, as well as those of people who saw him on TV. His episode remains one of the show’s most memorable.
Now, with TLC reviving My Strange Addiction for an all-new season that premieres Wednesday, January 7, the network is checking in with some past participants. In an Instagram update, Nathaniel revealed that while he was no longer involved with Chase following an accident during routine maintenance, his car love had not abated.
“If you’re wondering if I’m still in a relationship with my car, I am,” he shared. In fact, Nathaniel has multiple cars in his life, including an older black sedan and a white SUV.
“It’s kind of tough sometimes to maintain multiple relationships,” he said. “I mean, I try to show equal care to all of them.”
Nathaniel added that since he first appeared on My Strange Addiction, his attraction to cars had only gotten stronger.
“I definitely felt like there was a mental issue,” he admitted. “Which I’m sure people probably still think there is. But it’s just who I am and I can’t change that.”
