Whoopi Goldberg’s Live Melania Trump Reaction Throws ‘The View’ Into Chaos
First Lady Melania Trump has broken her usual public silence to address the growing unrest in Minnesota, where protests have erupted following the fatal shooting of civilians by federal agents. In a rare political statement on Fox & Friends, Melania called for unity and peaceful protest. She urged Americans to come together and “protest in peace” amid rising tensions over immigration enforcement in Minneapolis. Unfortunately, the message didn’t land with everyone. Here’s how Whoopi Goldberg responded on The View to Melania’s message.
Whoopi Goldberg had a telling response on ‘The View’ to Melania Trump’s
On Jan. 27, 2026, Melania Trump spoke on Fox & Friends to call for “unity” regarding the ongoing ICE protests in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
“I know my husband, the president, had a great call with the governor and the mayor, and they’re working together to make it peaceful and without riots,” Melania said. She added that she’s “against the violence, so please, if you protest, protest in peace.”
Melania rarely makes comments like these about the division in the U.S. In response, Whoopi Goldberg on The View snubbed the First Lady entirely.
“Who was that?” Goldberg says after appearing to be upset by the video. The response was met by audience laughter. “She looks so familiar. I don’t know who she was! Who was that?”
She then turns to Brian Teta, the executive producer of The View. “Brian, who was that?” Goldberg asks. Teta then responds by stating the First Lady was on the screen.
It’s then brought to Goldberg’s attention that amid Melania’s call for peace, the First Lady was standing in front of a screen to promote her new documentary, Melania. “Oh, well, that’s why she’s against violence,” Goldberg continues. “Alright, well, I can’t remember the last time I saw her.”
Whoopi Goldberg has been openly critical of Donald Trump’s presidential policies
Whoopi Goldberg has become one of the most outspoken entertainment figures critiquing Donald Trump’s presidency and public conduct. On multiple episodes of The View, Goldberg has sharply criticized Donald’s leadership and rhetoric, even joking that his time in office feels like it’s been “100 years.”
Goldberg’s critiques have extended beyond commentary to broader political calls. In January 2026, she made headlines by openly suggesting that it was time to invoke the 25th Amendment to remove Donald from office, citing concerns about his recent remarks at the World Economic Forum. Her co-hosts, like Sunny Hostin, agreed with her stance. The White House responded by labeling Goldberg and her colleagues “useful idiots,” according to Entertainment Weekly.
Donald Trump has called Whoopi Goldberg ‘demented’ and ‘disgusting’ in the past
While Whoopi Goldberg hasn’t been shy about sharing her opinions of President Donald Trump, Donald himself has also remained critical of Goldberg. At a campaign rally in Pennsylvania in 2024, Donald referenced Kamala Harris’ interview on The View, noting that it featured “really dumb people,” according to The Express Tribune.
He went on to say that he once hired Goldberg for a comedy act and alleged that Goldberg once thought he was “so great.” However, he claimed she used obscene language and went on to call her “filthy, dirty, disgusting.”
“What a loser she is,” Donald said.
Additionally, Donald has used social media to mock Goldberg. In January 2016, she suggested that she might move out of the country if he was elected president. In 2024, Donald shared a meme of Goldberg that included the text, “I’m moving to Canada, for sure this time!” He then wrote above the meme, “Canada doesn’t want you Whoopi, NOBODY DOES!!!” according to Fox News.
