Sherry Cola and D’Arcy Carden are on a quest to find America’s most out-there places to stay.

In their new HGTV show Wild Vacation Rentals, which premieres March 2, the pair of comedians team up to criss-cross the country as they visit some of the strangest, most memorable vacation homes in different regions of the U.S., picking one “must-stay” property per episode.

For the friends and Nobody Wants This co-stars, the show was a long-awaited chance to fulfill their dream of working closely together.

“I mean, it’s a vision board moment here,” Cola told Showbiz Cheat Sheet. “D’Arcy Carden and Sherry Cola, we’re giving the people what they want … D’Arcy is just a dream of just a comedic genius and ray of light. So I’m just so stoked we got to do this.”

“That’s how I feel about Sherry. And we were looking for something to do together … Sherry kept saying, ‘We’ll be in touch,’” Carden explained. “We kind of kept coming up with little, I don’t know, just little ways that we could be working together more.”

“At first it was a threat,” Cola chimed in. “It really went from threat to manifestation because when we were presented with this, it just felt like, oh my God, yes, absolutely.”

Once the duo hit the road, they were blown away by the truly wild selection of vacation homes.

“All of it was just so wild and unexpected. And I feel like it was beyond our imaginations as well,” Cola said.

They went into each rental completely blind. And they quickly realized that an unassuming facade can hide something amazing.

“It really taught us to keep an open mind because you never know what’s behind the door,” Cola said.

“We wanted to be surprised and have it really hit us when it hits us. And so many of the places look a certain way and then you walk in and it’s completely different. A good example is the missile silo,” Carden said, referring to one of the rental from the show’s premiere episode. “We didn’t know that we were going to be going down so very far underground. There were no two places that were similar in any way.”

“You can’t judge a cabin by its Sasquatch statue,” Cola quipped. “That’s what I’ve learned.”

Having visited so many vacation rentals, Cola and Carden have some opinions on what makes a place stand out. And it’s not the over-the-top bells and whistles.

“A clean rental, a clean house goes so far,” Carden said. “Smells good and clean. And by smells good, I don’t mean overly perfumed at all. Just like a dust-free environment that has been cleaned before you come there. I feel so comfortable and safe and at home, and I would rate it higher by a mile than [one] that feels a little dingy and dusty.”

Sherry Cola and D’Arcy Carden say compromise is key when traveling with friends

As besties who’ve traveled together, the Wild Vacation Rentals hosts also have some advice for friends who are embarking on on a trip.

“Keep it cute … focus on the fun and just have a good time,” Cola said.

Being flexible helps too.

“Everybody has different ways of traveling,” Carden pointed out. “Some people want to be super scheduled and some people want to take it easy. You got to have to meet in the middle and compromise.”

“Listen, if it’s two days, each person pick an activity, each person pick a meal and just shut up,” Cola advised.

“Shut up and enjoy yourself,” Carden agreed.

Wild Vacation Rentals premieres Monday, March 2 at 9:30pm ET/PT on HGTV.
