Brandon Blackstock, the 48-year-old longtime talent manager and former husband of singer Kelly Clarkson, died on Aug. 7, 2025, after a private three-year battle with cancer. Known for his work in the music industry and for managing major artists, including Blake Shelton, Brandon was also a central figure in high-profile entertainment circles. Despite the couple’s highly publicized divorce in 2022, Clarkson reportedly remained supportive during his illness. And his passing has prompted an outpouring of condolences from both fans and industry peers. Now, The Voice fans wonder whether filming seasons 28 and 29 will be impacted by Brandon’s death due to his close association with Clarkson and Reba McEntire.

Kelly Clarkson and Brandon Blackstock were married in 2013. They shared nearly seven years before finalizing their divorce in 2022. During their marriage, Brandon served as Clarkson’s manager. And he also played a key role in her professional and personal life. He helped her navigate her rise as a talk show host and coach on The Voice. Their split was highly publicized, marked by legal battles over custody and property, but in recent years, until his death in August 2025, reports suggested they had found a more peaceful co-parenting rhythm.

Adding another layer of complexity to their relationship was Brandon’s family connection to country music legend Reba McEntire, his former stepmother. McEntire married his father, Narvel Blackstock. They divorced after over two decades. Despite the split, McEntire remained close to Brandon and considered him her stepson.

McEntire joins Niall Horan, Michael Bublé, and Snoop Dogg as coaches on The Voice Season 28. Clarkson joins Adam Levine and John Legend on season 29, also known as The Voice: Battle of Champions. According to dates posted to Just Jared, NBC is set to film the Battle Rounds for season 28 on Aug. 7-8. The network then has the Knockouts scheduled to film on Aug. 28-29. As for season 29 filming, the Battle Rounds are set to film on Aug. 21-22. And the Knockouts will allegedly film at the beginning of September 2025.

With this in mind, we can’t say for sure whether Brandon’s death will impact The Voice Seasons 28 and 29 filming schedules. But it certainly seems possible, given how Clarkson and McEntire have involvement in their respective seasons and now must deal with immeasurable loss.
