It’s happening, David Beckham is going to become a knight and his wife Victoria will be known as “Lady Beckham.”

The Sun reported that David will become “Sir” during King Charles‘ birthday celebrations and will be named in the honors list for 2025. David has known the royal family for years and in 2024, he was appointed ambassador for the King’s Foundation.

The former soccer star is a self-proclaimed “royalist.” During the 2023 Fashion Design Award Ceremony, he said: “I’ve always been a huge royalist. Everybody knows the story … my grandparents were huge royalists and I was brought up to love the royal family.”

There have been calls for years for David to receive knighthood, and one expert recently predicted that it would happen this year. Here’s more on that and who this news likely isn’t sitting well with.

Expert predicted David would receive honor after seeing his ‘genuine friendship’ with the king

Darren Stanton is a body language and behavioral expert with a degree in psychology. He previously worked as a police officer and used his expertise to uncover the truth when interviewing hundreds of suspects. He later moved into media and TV as a consultant and has been dubbed the “Human Lie Detector.” Stanton talked about the men’s interaction at the Chelsea Flower Show in May and opined that David would be awarded knighthood sooner rather than later.

Speaking on behalf of Betfair Casino following the flower show, Stanton told Showbiz Cheat Sheet: “I also noticed Charles tapped David on his left elbow at one point. It’s not very common for members of the royal family to do that. It’s an extremely tactile gesture to come from Charles.

“Certainly, for the king, he’s got a genuine relationship and considers David to be a good friend. The touching of the elbow really indicates to me that there’s a genuine companionship, rapport, and trust. It’s only a very quick gesture, but it signifies so much in body language. It’s this physical connection that denotes the fact that they’re really good friends.”

The expert then added: “We’re seeing David appear more and more at royal events — it’s clear Charles really respects him and the effort he puts into his work. From his body language and the way he interacts with David, I wouldn’t be surprised if he receives a knighthood this year.”

Some pointed out that this news won’t sit well with Prince Harry

The news of David receiving the honor likely isn’t sitting well with the king’s youngest son since Prince Harry is feuding with the former athlete.

The Beckhams and Sussexes’ rift is believed to have started when Harry accused Victoria of leaking stories about Meghan to the press, which infuriated David.

It was also claimed in Tom Bower’s book Revenge that Harry asked David to fly 22 hours to Australia to attend an Invictus Games event with him, but had no intention of meeting him there. According to Bower, Harry decided to keep his distance because Meghan did not want any “competition” in the media from David or Victoria.

And recent reports claim that David and Victoria‘s oldest son, Brooklyn, and his wife, Nicola Peltz, had a “secret summit” with  Prince Harry and Meghan Markle in Montecito. Although those reports have not been confirmed.

Showbiz Cheat Sheet acknowledges that conditions and cultures can impact body language and is sensitive to all backgrounds.
