American football coach Ted Lasso agrees to lead the English Premier League team, AFC Richmond, despite having zero knowledge about soccer. As the new head coach, Lasso must win over team owner, Rebecca Welton, who has set him up to fail in hopes of exacting revenge on her ex-husband.

Originally, Jason Sudeikis’s Lasso appeared in a 2013 promo during NBC Sports’ coverage of the Premier League. Sudeikis, Bill Lawrence, Brendan Hunt, and Joe Kelly eventually developed Ted Lasso into a full-blown sports “dramedy” that amassed a huge following.

Season one was nominated for 20 Primetime Emmy Awards and won for Outstanding Comedy Series as well as Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series (Jason Sudeikis), Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series (Brett Goldstein), and Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series (Hannah Waddingham).
