Ina Garten is one of the biggest stars on the Food Network, a home chef who has worked in nearly every facet of the culinary industry. Garten, who is known for her button-down chambray shirts, her signature bob hairstyle, and her unabashed love for her husband, Jeffrey, has remained a fan-favorite even after decades of being on television.

While Garten’s ebullient personality has won her many fans over the years, it is her recipes that keep her in the headlines — and when it comes to simple, quick snacks and light lunches, Garten has no equal, with a twist on avocado toast that has to be tasted to be believed.

Who is Ina Garten?

Garten became a Food Network star in 2002. At that time, she was already an expert in the culinary space, having opened a specialty foods store in the Hamptons in the ’90s, and going on to publish several bestselling books.

However, Garten’s show, Barefoot Contessa, made her a star, and thousands of viewers every week tuned into her show to see her prepare simple, hearty dishes that focused on whole ingredients.

All while Garten’s show increased in popularity, she continued her other ventures — and in the past several decades, she has published a dozen cookbooks, including Cooking for Jeffrey: A Barefoot Contessa Cookbook, Barefoot Contessa at Home: Everyday Recipes You’ll Make Over and Over Again, and Barefoot Contessa Parties! Ideas and Recipes For Easy Parties That Are Really Fun.

Garten has appeared on other television shows as well, lending her talents to friends’ projects and regularly engaging with fans and fellow celebrities on social media. All in all, it is clear that not only has Garten not lost her passion for food, but that fans have not lost their enthusiasm for her.

Ina Garten thinks that avocado toast is definitely a ‘hot’ food trend

As much as Garten loves classic French recipes, she’s not averse to trendy foods and new dishes. In fact, one of Garten’s favorite treats is the millennial favorite avocado toast, which Garten deemed as “definitely” a hot food trend.

The chef admitted that avocado toast is one of her go-to’s when making lunch or brunch for herself, but rather than slicing the avocado directly over the toast, she prefers to smash it onto the bread, giving the avocado toast more texture and creaminess than the traditional method.

To make the perfect avocado toast, just like Ina Garten, using a ripe avocado is of utmost importance. Try to choose an avocado that hasn’t turned brown, but is soft enough to be easily sliced.

When seasoning the avocado, smash some Sriracha sauce into it, as well as lemon juice, kosher salt, and freshly ground black pepper.

If you want to kick up the protein content, you can use one of the hacks that Garten suggested on her social media, which is to prepare a soft-boiled egg and garnish the avocado toast with the freshly-cooked egg, letting the warm yolk melt into the avocado. Of course, there are endless garnish options for avocado toast, including bacon, sliced radishes, tomato, cheese, and even fresh prosciutto.

No matter how you choose to garnish your avocado toast, try making it with Garten’s hack for a perfect brunch or lunch dish that is not only savory but filling and healthy as well.
