Dozens of talented stars, from Robert Downey Jr. to Jeff Bridges, have made their mark on the Marvel Cinematic Universe. And among the MCU’s best-loved actors is Scarlett Johansson. She came on board as Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow in 2010’s Iron Man 2. Johansson has impressed fans, and many have praised her unique ability to bring the mysterious comic-book character to life.

Johansson has since portrayed the character in six other Marvel movies, including the blockbuster Avengers: Endgame. Many fans believe Natasha often gets short shrift in the movies, spending little time on her fascinating backstory and upbringing. But Black Widow promises to change that. It’ll offer an in-depth look at how Natasha spent her days before and after joining the Avengers Initiative.

‘Black Widow’ is set for a July release

When the movie Black Widow movie was announced, fans were ecstatic. But the pandemic delayed the film’s release by over a year and pushed the release date back twice. Finally, this spring, Marvel announced Black Widow would hit theaters and Disney+ on July 9, 2021, Heavy reported.

The film will show what happens to Natasha between the events of Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War. It’ll look at her upbringing and some of her heroic acts when she wasn’t working with the Avengers. Excited fans recently took to Reddit to discuss it.

In a recent Reddit thread, fans discussed Black Widow and whether it will mark the first installment of a trilogy. “It seems that, no, Scarlet gunned hard to get this movie knowing it would be her last,” one fan wrote in response to the thread question about whether the film is the first in a trilogy.

“Black Widow, probably yes. Natasha … we’ll see, but I doubt it,” another one stated.

“Not one involving Johansson. But certainly could be a continuation with Pugh,” yet another fan wrote. Several others suspected a trilogy is especially unlikely considering the way Johansson’s character ended up in Avengers: Endgame.

However, one poster thought the unexpected could happen: “Possibly. I think fans are really underestimating that Natasha stays dead; maybe there’s a 30 to 40% she is alive. The simple answer is that she died during Endgame and was brought back to life and didn’t return to the Avengers. It’s a little strange for Marvel to make Black Widow their 1st Phase 4 movie starring a dead character.”
