However, the members of the K-pop group often go by their stage names, especially when they introduce themselves during interviews. So, you might be wondering, what are the BTS members’ real names?
Like ages, legal names work a bit differently in South Korea. In that country, a person’s family name (or surname) is listed first, followed by a person’s given name (or personal name). They are different from those in the United States, where people write their given name first, followed by their family name. Traditionally, Korean family names are only one syllable, and there are no middle names.

RM’s real name is Kim Namjoon
A rapper and the leader of BTS, Kim Namjoon often goes by his stage name, RM. Previously, he gave himself the stage name Rap Monster but has since changed the letters “RM” to stand for “Real Me,” which represents this artist well.
RM often acts as the translator and spokesperson for BTS because he is fluent in English. He also spoke at the United Nations, mentioning the group’s partnership with UNICEF for the “Love Myself” campaign.
Jin’s real name is Kim Seokjin
He’s “Mr. Worldwide Handsome,” but he’s also a singer and the oldest member of BTS. Although “Jin” is his stage name, the performer’s real name is Kim Seokjin. Some fans just know him as the funny, caring “mother” of BTS.
J-Hope’s real name is Jung Hoseok
He’s your hope; you’re his hope; he’s J-Hope. Jung Hoseok chose his stage name because he wanted to bring hope and happiness to his fans. Since his debut with BTS, he has made a name for himself as a talented rapper, songwriter, and dancer.
Additionally, J-Hope has his own mixtape, Hope World, which has earned hundreds of millions of streams on music platforms like Spotify, and he plans to release a second mixtape.
Suga’s real name is Min Yoongi
He’s a little salty, a little sweet, and almost always a little tired. The real name of Suga, one of the main rappers of BTS, is Min Yoongi. Some also know him as the sassiest, most savage member of the group, particularly for his witty comments.
V’s real name is Kim Taehyung
One of the eccentric members of BTS, V doesn’t like wearing shoes but loves changing his hair color. This BTS member’s real name is Kim Taehyung. V is also the artist behind solo songs such as “Winter Bear,” “Sweet Night,” and “Singularity.”
Jimin’s real name is Park Jimin
One of BTS’s singers, Park Jimin uses his given name — Jimin — as his stage name. The performer is also known for his successful solo music. He became the first Korean solo artist since Psy (of “Gangnam Style” fame) to have multiple songs perform well on streaming platforms. In fact, Jimin set a Spotify record for three songs with over 50 million plays each, which he has since surpassed with over 100 million streams each.
Jungkook’s real name is Jeon Jeongguk
Some know him as the “Golden Maknae.” He can sing, he can dance, he’s kind, and he’s also the youngest member of BTS. Jeon Jeongguk often goes by his stage name, Jungkook, which is similar in pronunciation to his real name.
