‘Counting On’: Did Jill Duggar Just Snub Her Mom Michelle on Mother’s Day?

Mother’s Day was May 10, but the day came and went without Jill Duggar publicly acknowledging her mom Michelle Duggar. The Counting On alum didn’t post anything regarding the holiday on her Instagram, even as several of her siblings took to social media to praise their mom.

Last year, Jill, 28, posted a gushing message about Michelle on Instagram. She said she was “grateful” for her mom, adding that “she demonstrates what a selfless, joyful, patient mother should look like as she raised and continues to raise all 19 of us!”

“She is the most loving person you’ll ever meet!,” Jill went on to say. “She always takes time to invest in the life of her kids and is constantly looking for ways to bless others! I’m so grateful to have the most amazing mom in the world as my mom and a great role model for me and many others!”

But this year, there wasn’t a repeat of the glowing praise. Jill didn’t post anything on Instagram about her mom. That won’t surprise some who follow the Duggar family. An insider recently told In Touch Weekly that Jill is “on good terms” with both her parents. However, there have long been rumors she and her husband Derick Dillard are feuding with Jim Bob and Michelle.

Michelle Duggar says she’s ‘grateful’ for her daughters

My own mother, Ethel Ruark, was a loving wife and dedicated mother of 7, of whom I was the youngest. She passed away nearly three decades ago, when my journey in mothering had only just begun. In those early days of grieving her loss, it was difficult to imagine parenting my children without her. I wanted her to know her grand babies and for them to know her. I longed for her to be there for me as my mom, a seasoned mother to lean on and to go to for advice in raising my own kids. I desired for her to see my kids grow up, to be there for all the birthday parties and families gatherings, to celebrate all their milestones and achievements. She was a wonderful grandma. She is greatly loved and dearly missed. This Mother’s Day is our first without Jim Bob’s mother, Grandma Mary Duggar. What a gift and a treasure she was to our family. I first got to know her when I went to work at a yogurt shop where she was the manager. As a new Christian, I was so impressed by her godly example and wanted to learn from her. She was a bold witness for Christ, and even when difficult situations would arise, I would hear her say “Praise the Lord in all things!” Little did I know that I would soon fall in love with and marry her son, and would be blessed to call her my mother-in-law! What a gift and a kindness of God. She was a devoted grandma and truly became like a mother to me after my own mom’s passing. We miss her dearly. This Mother’s Day, I’m thinking on the next generation of mothers, and I’m so grateful to God for each one of my daughters and daughters-in-love! They are godly, wonderful mothers, raising the next generation to know and love the Lord. My heart rejoices as I watch them love on and nurture their own little ones— cuddling them, laughing with them, playing with them, helping them learn to respond kindly and gently to others, patiently working out squabbles or disagreements between cousins, reading the Bible to them, singing with them, praying with them. It brings a smile to my face every time I get the joy of being with these sweet Mamas! They are truly some of my best friends! Happy Mother’s Day to each of you girls!

While Jill didn’t choose to share a public message about her mother on Sunday, Michelle did post about her mom and mother-in-law. She also talked about her own daughters and daughters-in-law, a number of whom are now mothers themselves.

“This Mother’s Day, I’m thinking on the next generation of mothers, and I’m so grateful to God for each one of my daughters and daughters-in-love!” the mom of 19 wrote on Instagram. “They are godly, wonderful mothers, raising the next generation to know and love the Lord. My heart rejoices as I watch them love on and nurture their own little ones … It brings a smile to my face every time I get the joy of being with these sweet Mamas!”

Mom, If I were to think of one word to describe you, the first word that comes to mind is “selfless.” You are always giving of your time, energy and resources to bless others. I honestly don’t know how you do all that you do! You can run on little sleep for days on end just to make sure your family is taken care of. If we’re sick or not feeling well, you’re tender and compassionate, and you’ll care for us around the clock. If we’ve made a mess of something, you’re there to help us restart and get back on track. If we’re downhearted or discouraged, you’re a shoulder to cry on and you know the words to speak that will bring hope to our hearts. If we’ve lost something, you call a search party and help us look for it. If we’re stressed about an upcoming test, you’re there to encourage us and tell us we can do it. If we’re overwhelmed or have a lot on our plate, you’re always there asking, “What can I do to help you?” If we’re anxious or worried about something, you’re there to pray with us and help to calm our fears. If we can’t figure something out, you’re there to tell us we can do it and encourage us to persevere. If we have goals or dreams, you’re there to cheer us on and do what you can help us accomplish them. If we’re searching for guidance or direction in any area of life, you point us to wisdom from the Word of God. If we have messed up and failed miserably, even broken your heart, you are always there for us, forgiving us before we even ask, and forever loving us unconditionally. Mom, you truly are a picture of Jesus! You are a Proverbs 31 woman! Thank you for being my best friend! Happy Mother’s Day! ❤️ I love you so much!

Jill was not the only Duggar girl who didn’t wish her mom a happy Mother’s Day on social media. Neither Joy-Anna nor Jinger Duggar posted any messages for Michelle. But Jessa and Jana Duggar did.

Jana shared a throwback photo of her mom and talked about her admiration for her “selfless” parent.

“You are always giving of your time, energy and resources to bless others,” Michelle’s oldest daughter wrote. “I honestly don’t know how you do all that you do! … Thank you for being my best friend!”

Mom of three Jessa talked about how much she loved seeing her mom be a grandmother to her own kids.

“The only thing sweeter than having you as my Mom, is watching you be Grandma to my kids!” she wrote. “You’re the sweetest Lolli in the whole world!”
