The Daytime Emmys 2022 are the perfect time for fans of daytime television to celebrate the very best of what they’ve seen this year. Many soap opera fans hope to see The Young and the Restless sweep the awards. Unfortunately, two big names from the famous soap won’t get to join their co-stars in any of the celebrations, as they contracted coronavirus (COVID-19) after a trip.

The Daytime Emmys 2022 will bring fans of daytime television back to the stage. USA Today reminds us the 2020 Daytime Emmy Awards went virtual due to coronavirus, and the 2021 award show was pre-taped with a limited audience. Now, the awards are back at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium.

The daytime drama series category brings fierce competition. The publication notes NBC’s Days of Our Lives competes against its spinoff, Days of Our Lives: Beyond Salem. CBS’s The Bold and the Beautiful and The Young and the Restless also compete in the category, as does ABC’s General Hospital.

So far, The Young and the Restless leads the way with 18 nominations, and General Hospital follows with 17 nominations. Several nominations for The Young and the Restless are for the main acting categories.

Melissa Ordway and Jason Thompson won’t make it to the awards due to coronavirus

The Daytime Emmys 2022 could mean big wins for The Young and the Restless. Sadly, Melissa Ordway and Jason Thompson can’t attend to see what happens live.

Ordway and Thomspon traveled to Monaco for the 61st annual Festival de Television de Monte Carlo. Both actors returned with coronavirus.

“After 2.5 years of dodging Covid … I finally tested positive!” Thompson, who plays Billy, shared on Instagram. “I’m very sorry to say I won’t be attending the @daytimeemmys tomorrow night and that’s a bummer!! To all my fellow nominees and friends, I wish you all the best, have a fantastic night celebrating what we do.” Thompson posted a video explanation as well, and he said the illness feels like a “minor cold.”

Ordway plays Abby, and she took to social media to explain her situation as well. “It has always been a dream of mine to be nominated for a Daytime Emmy Award and to bring my parents to the show,” she wrote. “It was about to come true until I tested positive for Covid yesterday afternoon. I’m so disappointed that I won’t be able to celebrate with everyone on Friday. I’ve cried lots of tears.” She then noted she’s asymptomatic.

USA Today notes the Daytime Emmy Awards air live on Friday, June 24, 2022, at 9 p.m. ET on CBS. Those with Paramount+ can stream the awards.

The night includes a number of notable presenters, too, like Drew Barrymore, Deidre Hall, Tamron Hall, and Cameron Mathison. The In Memoriam segment will feature Michael Bolton’s new song, “Beautiful World.” Kevin Frazier and Nischelle Turner from Entertainment Tonight will host the 49th annual awards.

While Melissa Ordway and Jason Thompson can’t make it to the awards to cheer on the rest of The Young and the Restless cast, we wish them a speedy recovery and hope to see them next year!
