Florence Pugh is coming off her big Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in Black Widow where she introduced new fan-favorite Yelena Belova to the world. While she has more experience in film, she isn’t a stranger to television. She’s going to appear in the Disney+ series Hawkeye in some capacity, and she’s held other roles over the years. And after Ted Lasso’s big night at the Emmy Awards, some fans also dug up the fact that she almost had a cameo in the Apple TV+ series.

Ted Lasso is currently on its second season; this was the first time the show was eligible for the Emmys. And it sure cleaned up the acting categories it was nominated for.

Not only did the show win Outstanding Comedy Series, but Jason Sudeikis (the lead) also won Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series. Brett Goldstein also won Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series, and Hannah Waddingham won Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series.

One of those couch-watchers was Pugh. She posted her excitement about their wins on Instagram Stories and wished her boyfriend Zach Braff good luck beforehand.

A mysterious image surfaced now that shows her on set, as an ‘extra

Since it’s a television series there are sometimes different directors on a season, and Braff was one of them. His episode “Biscuits” was nominated for Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series at this year’s Emmys, hence Pugh’s rooting for Ted Lasso

But not long after the series’ wins did users online find photos of Pugh on set while Ted Lasso filmed.

A Reddit post, most likely taken from viral images on Twitter, wrote, “Apparently, Florence Pugh had a cameo on the show that was cut out.” The original tweet wrote, “WHY AM I ONLY JUST NOW LEARNING THAT FLORENCE PUGH WAS AN EXTRA IN TED LASSO BUT HER SCENE GOT CUT,” as any fan would.

The first image showed a monitor with Pugh on it outside at a pub with several pints surrounding her table. She has a coat on and there’s a soccer match going on in the pub; people are watching through the establishment’s windows behind her. The second picture is a different angle of Pugh, this time without the coat and she’s wearing the team’s jersey. She’s on a phone, and instead of this being from a monitor, the photo shows the camera filming Pugh.

Fans want to know why her brief moment was cut

So it’s obvious that Pugh filmed something for the show, but it never aired with her in it. The series revolves around Sudeikis’ character moving to England to coach soccer, which is funny considering he’s an American football coach. And with that setting, the show did actually film in the U.K. which is where Pugh is from (although she’s spent a lot of time in Los Angeles). Plus, with her close relationship with Braff, it must have been an easy call to have her pop on over.

But again, it didn’t make it in the final cut. A lot of people in the initial Twitter post’s replies just exclaimed tweets of “IS THIS REAL?” and “Why” or “Excuse me?” when the part about her on-set bit being cut set in.

On Reddit, one user commented, “Always thought if some celebrity was going to do a cameo, they’d put them in a scene they knew wouldn’t be cut.”

Looking at the images, and the way it’s shot, this looked like it was going to be a very brief cameo moment for Pugh, a la Sarah Michelle Gellar in She’s All That. That extra moment or split second of a scene just took too much time and needed to be cut. Every second matters in the editing room, and unfortunately for Pugh’s fans that meant no cameo.

Plus Pugh and Braff will be working together quite soon on “A Good Person.” He’s directing and she’s starring alongside Morgan Freeman. So this isn’t the end to Pugh and Braff being co-workers.
