According to Variety, Gilbert Gottfried died at 67 years old on Tuesday, April 12, 2022, after a long stint with an illness.
“We are heartbroken to announce the passing of our beloved Gilbert Gottfried after a long illness,” his family posted on Twitter. “In addition to being the most iconic voice in comedy, Gilbert was a wonderful husband, brother, friend, and father to his two young children. Although today is a sad day for all of us, please keep laughing as loud as possible in Gilbert’s honor. Love, the Gottfried family.”
A number of celebrities are now mourning the loss, too. “Gilbert Gottfried made me laugh at times when laughter did not come easily,” Jason Alexander tweeted. “What a gift. I did not know him well, but I loved what he shared with me. My best wishes and sympathy to his family.”
Who is Gilbert Gottfried’s wife, Dara Kravitz?
Gilbert Gottfried’s wife, Dara Kravitz, survives him. So, who is Kravitz? According to Tuko, she was born on Feb. 24, 1970, and is 52 years old in 2022. There isn’t concrete information about her education, but she allegedly completed university before moving on to become a records producer. She later went on to work on several different record labels, including MCA Records and Geffen Records.
While fans know Gottfried for his film work, Kravitz has acting credentials. She also helped produce Gottfried’s Colossal podcast.
Kravitz married Gottfried in 2007. According to The New York Times, they first met at a Grammy Awards party at Tavern on the Green. Kravitz notes she dropped food on the table, and Gottfried “picked it up and put it on his plate.”
“I looked at him, like, ‘Who is this guy?’” Kravitz said. “He looked sad and lost and childlike. I thought he was adorable.”
The couple kept their relationship hidden for quite some time, as they both didn’t volunteer much personal information about themselves to the public.
“The public wants to know your bank account number, your Social Security and PIN code too,” Gottfried commented. “I can’t peek my head into a women’s changing room and go, ‘Well, I want to know, and I’m curious about this.’”
Richard Belzer, a comedian and Law & Order regular, knew Gottfried for decades. He noted he thought Gottfried didn’t want people to know about his wife because it would change how the world looked at him. “If people knew he had a girlfriend or was married, it might dilute the world’s perception of him,” Belzer added.
How many children do they have?
So, how many children do Gilbert Gottfried and wife Dara Gottfried, have? They have two children — Lily and Max Gottfried. Lily was born in 2007, and Max was born in 2009, Closer Weekly reports. In 2022, Lily will be 15, and Max will be 13.
“My daughter, she’s on TikTok,” Gottfried said of his daughter. “So she got me on TikTok, I have no idea what it is. I’m like talking to somebody’s grandmother about TikTok. And she’ll say, ‘I want you to do this little dance step,’ which, of course, I can never do. So I was already making stuff with her, and [the video] was like the next step.”
As for Max, he’s reportedly friends with famous magician Penn Jilette’s son, Zolton. Gottfried shared a photo of his son and Zolton in the past.
