Gilmore Girls fans know the show’s characters have become notorious for their fast, witty lines filled with pop culture references. Each character had their own distinctive personality that set them up to deliver some hilarious and memorable quotes. Of course, every great comedy needs a sassy type; in Gilmore Girls, that person was Michel Gerard (played by Yanic Truesdale).

Michel worked with main character Lorelai Gilmore as the assistant manager of the Independence Inn and later the Dragonfly Inn. The Frenchman was often rude and impatient with his co-workers and guests at the inns. However, his attitude often resulted in some of Gilmore Girls‘ funniest lines. In which moments did Michel truly outdo himself with sass?

What was Yanic Truesdale’s favorite Michel line in ‘Gilmore Girls’?

Even Truesdale’s favorite Michel line drips with sarcasm — so much so, in fact, that he can’t believe anyone would ever say it. The actor once revealed to Today that he felt the quote was “really, really funny because it’s so inappropriate.”

In Gilmore Girls Season 1 Episode 2, an elderly woman asked Michel where one might find the best antiques. “At your house, I’d guess,” Michel quickly responded in the flattest voice imaginable.

Truesdale said this was his favorite line because “no one…in their right mind” would ever say such a thing to someone else. Of course, there have been many other Michel quotes that seem too sassy and rude to be real.

This line also hails from the second episode of season 1. Lorelai, Sookie, and Jackson stood in the kitchen, discussing Jackson’s latest peach delivery when Michel walked in to deliver a message for Lorelai. “Excuse me. There’s a phone call for you, and if I’m to fetch you like a dog, I’d like a cookie and a raise,” he said, again in a flat voice.

Michel often expressed how much he was into keeping himself fit and making sure he tracked his calories. However, he was also often very lazy at work and didn’t like to venture too far beyond the front desk. Sometimes, he even refused to answer the phone. The brief walk from the desk to the kitchen was just far too long for his standards.

‘Yes, I have all of this written down on a notepad right next to my self-help book, ‘Why Don’t People Think You Know What The Hell You’re Doing?”

Michel didn’t take lightly to people thinking he didn’t know how to do his job. This line came in Gilmore Girls Season 3 Episode 11. When Lorelai felt stressed about her deposition in Emily Gilmore‘s court case, she got distracted at work and kept reminding Michel about the project he had to work on.

“OK, so you’ll come in early and set up the conference room for the group from Michigan,” she said, prompting Michel to say, “Yes, I will.”

“OK. Now, Sookie’s on top of the menu. Let’s make sure the, uh, dining room’s open for a late lunch, and we need to confirm the number of rooms they’ll need,” Lorelai responded.

Then, Michel delivered his perfect comeback about writing everything down next to his self-help book. Michel had been a concierge for many years at that point, but people did seem to assume he needed instruction. Perhaps that had something to do with his lazy tendencies.

‘It took me two seconds to tell you I don’t care, that’s as quick as I get.’

If there’s one thing Michel usually wanted people to believe about him, it’s that he didn’t care about most things. In Gilmore Girls Season 2 Episode 2, Sookie asked Michel to choose a cookie for her. But he refused, saying he didn’t care.

“I just need a quick opinion!” she pleaded, which led Michel to point out that he very quickly said “I don’t care.”

Michel could pretend all he wanted, but Gilmore Girls fans knew that underneath all of Michel’s sass was a caring heart. He just had a very sarcastic way of showing it.
