Marvel fans immediately fell in love with Kate Bishop when Hawkeye premiered on Disney+ in late 2021. After the first two episodes, many were hoping to see more from her character after the Marvel Cinematic Universe series aired its finale. Unfortunately, it’s looking like Disney will not renew Hawkeye for a season 2.

Disney potentially tanks ‘Hawkeye’ Season 2 chances

Per Variety, Disney is starting to submit a handful of its shows to the Emmys to consider for its 2022 ceremony. And while the studio submitted Loki as a drama series, they categorized Hawkeye and Moon Knight as limited series.

Disney already confirmed that Loki would return for a second season, so it makes sense that it would compete in the drama series category. But the fact that the Emmys would label Hawkeye as a limited series spells doom for a season 2. Of course, there have been shows, like Big Little Lies, that won Emmys as a limited series and then returned for second seasons.

There’s a possibility that Hawkeye Season 2 could still happen. But given that Disney renewed Loki at the end of its season 1 finale and they haven’t said anything about Hawkeye‘s future might indicate that a second season is not happening.

What happened in the ‘Hawkeye’ finale?

Hawkeye might not get a season 2, but its finale still sets up the possibility for more stories for its characters.

Clint Barton and Kate Bishop teamed up one final time in Hawkeye Episode 6 to take down Kingpin and the Tracksuit Mafia. A fight broke out at Eleanor Bishop’s holiday party, where Kazi tried to assassinate Eleanor for Kingpin. Clint and Kate evacuated the party, and they faced off against the Tracksuit Mafia. Kate saved her mother from Kingpin, who she incapacitated with her trick arrows.

Yelena Belova and Echo also showed up to the fight, but they had their own agendas. Echo wanted revenge for her father’s death, and Yelena sought to kill Clint because she believed he was responsible for her sister’s death. Echo ended up killing Kazi, and she found Kingpin after his fight with Kate. The villain tried to convince his niece to spare him, but the viewers heard a gunshot after the camera pulled away from him and Echo.

Yelena and Clint fought, but he convinced her that Natasha chose to sacrifice herself in Avengers: Endgame. They bonded over their shared love for Natasha, and then Yelena fled.

At the end of the finale, the police arrested Eleanor for Armand Duquesne III’s murder. And Clint and Kate spent Christmas with his family. Undoubtedly, Marvel could tell more Hawkeye stories, even if there won’t be a season 2.

Will Hailee Steinfeld return to Marvel even if there isn’t a ‘Hawkeye’ Season 2?

Although Hawkeye Season 2 might not come to fruition, that doesn’t mean that Clint Barton, Kate Bishop, or Yelena Belova won’t reappear in the MCU. Marvel characters frequently bounce around movies and shows, so it’s plausible that the Hawkeye heroes could show up in future MCU projects.

While speaking with Entertainment Tonight, Hailee Steinfeld discussed her future as Kate Bishop in the MCU.

“[Kate], I think, is forced into the reality of what it means to be a superhero,” the actor shared. “It’s not all jumping from buildings and making people smile. There’s, as she says, collateral damage that that can go along with it.”

Steinfeld continued, “But that doesn’t stop her. I think it throws her, and it alters her outlook, but it doesn’t stop this burning fire within her to ultimately help people and protect people. She knows she’s capable of that. And I think that that alone can take us anywhere.”

All episodes of Hawkeye are now available to stream on Disney+.
