TikTok is a video streaming platform that is responsible for launching many young entertainers to stardom. Everyone from major celebrities to school-age children are getting in on the TikTok craze, sharing videos with hopes of going viral. The latest TikTok celeb is someone who rose to fame seemingly overnight, and all by utilizing a relatively simple smartphone effect. For users at home who wish to recreate the trend (and possibly achieve TikTok fame on their own terms), the craze is surprisingly easy to get in on.

Bella Poarch is TikTok’s newest star

For the better part of a year, a young woman named Charli D’Amelio has been the reigning queen of TikTok. A competitive dancer turned social media influencer, several of D’Amelio’s videos have gone viral over the past year, and D’Amelio herself has been enjoying all the perks of fame — including lucrative partnerships with brands such as Dunkin’ Donuts. Still, a challenger has emerged over the past several months, one who is threatening to surpass D’Amelio’s newfound fame

Bella Poarch was born in the Philippines, and according to her Instagram bio, is a veteran of the United States Navy. Poarch first began uploading videos to her TikTok account in April 2020, but it wasn’t until August when a video that she posted went viral, a “face dance” video of Poarch lip-syncing to the song “M to the B.” There is much that remains unknown about Poarch, including her exact age, but that hasn’t stopped the young woman from becoming a social media star.

Bella Poarch has been involved in several controversies

Bella Poarch’s “M to the B” video quickly garnered millions of likes, making her one of TikTok’s most-followed users in a matter of days. With that newfound fame came a significant amount of controversy, however. Recently, Poarch was linked to the rapper Tyga, after the two appeared in a video together.

Poarch has also gotten flack for a tattoo of hers, one that a number of her fans have taken issue with. Still, Poarch has received acclaim for her transparency in speaking about her experience with anxiety, depression, and PTSD. It seems likely that Poarch’s creativity and unique style will keep her in the headlines for the foreseeable future, and it is very possible that the young woman will leverage her fame to get sponsorship deals like other TikTok stars like Charli D’Amelio, or acting roles like Addison Rae.

Bella Poarch’s look and style is certainly singular, and the social media star has a vocal affinity for anime, video games, and stuffed animals. Still, for those who wish to recreate some of her signature moves on TikTok, there is a simple solution. Poarch’s first viral video, and many of the ones she has posted since, feature her doing a “face dance” — that is, using the Face Zoom lens on a smartphone to zoom in on the face of the person in the frame and lock onto it as it moves, according to Bustle.

The camera tightly follows the face of the user in the frame, meaning that if the user bobs their head in a dance, the lens will also bob up and down. The effect is entertaining and amusing. Users at home can easily do this by simply selecting the Face Zoom effect on their smartphone and lip-synching along to their song of choice, all while keeping their face in frame with the Face Zoom lens.
