Those who’ve been keeping up with the Duggars know all about Jill Duggar. She and her husband, Derick Dillard, left Counting On years ago. And they’re now speaking out about the rift that’s occurred between Jill and the rest of the Duggar family.

It seems Derick is telling his followers that they did their most recent interview with a major publication for free, too. Here’s what he said.

Jill Duggar and Derick Dillard recently spoke out about their rift with the Duggar family

There have been rumors that Jill and Derick have been on the outs with the Duggars since the end of 2019. Now, the couple’s confirmed it with People. They spoke to the publication in October 2020 about why Jill decided to leave the TLC show behind and where Jill and Derick stand with the Duggars now.

“Our control to choose what jobs we were allowed to accept and even where we were allowed to live was taken away from us,” Jill explained to People. She then mentioned her decision to walk away from Counting On “didn’t go over well” with her siblings or parents, but she knew it was the right call for her family.

As for how Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar feel, it seems they want the best for Jill no matter what. “Every family has differences of opinion and perspective at times, but families work things out,” they told People. “We all love Jill, Derick, and their boys very much. It is our prayer that our relationship is healed and fully restored quickly!”

Derick claimed he and Jill weren’t paid for the interview

While Jill and Derick set the record straight regarding where they stand and where they’re headed, Derick also made it known he and Jill did the interview with People for free. It seems getting the truth out there is just as important to the couple as making money.

“We actually did it for free,” Derick told a follower via Instagram, according to Reddit. “Please never assume things; that’s part of our message.”

As for why Jill and Derick decided to do the interview, it seems they wanted the truth out there. “There are many reasons, so I’ll just give you one,” Derick added. “People criticized us for raising funds to work on the mission field because they assumed we had an income from reality TV. This unnecessarily hurt our work and credibility, so I wanted to get the record straight and remind people that things aren’t always as they seem.”

Jill also wasn’t paid to be on ‘Counting On’ at first

While Jill and Derick are interested in sharing their personal tales, they definitely did want to get what they were owed for their time on Counting On. And Jill discussed via her YouTube channel how she had to get an attorney.

“So also, up until around the time we left the show, we hadn’t been paid for anything,” Jill explained in her video. “Of course, there were perks that came along with filming. If you were traveling, or whatever, they might cover those expenses and stuff. And we were grateful for those. But we hadn’t been paid until we were really pressing about it. And ended up getting an attorney involved and stuff.”

Derick then explained that once attorneys were involved, he and Jill recovered “a portion” of what they were owed. But it didn’t amount to much.

So, will Jill and Derick ever return to Counting On? With a different contract in place, it could happen. For now, it seems they’ll continue to share their lives via social media and other media outlets.
