Jill Duggar’s Husband, Derick Dillard, Said Jim Bob Likes to ‘Draw Out the Process’ of Men Proposing to the Duggar Daughters

Those who’ve kept up with the Duggar family know all about Jill Duggar’s alleged feud with her family. According to Jill’s husband, Derick Dillard, Jill’s father, Jim Bob, continues to put Jill on the outs. And it’s clear Derick and Jim Bob may never get along.

Back when Jill and Derick appeared on Counting On, they had plenty of funny commentary for viewers, too. And we can’t forget when Derick told the cameras that Jim Bob really likes to “draw out” the proposal process when a man wants to marry a Duggar daughter.

Fans have long suspected that Jill’s on the outs with her family, as she and Derick rarely make it to Duggar family events and holidays. And at the end of 2019, Derick seemed to confirm this. He took to his Instagram to tell his followers that the reason he and Jill rarely go over to the large Duggar home is because Jill needs permission from Jim Bob prior to going over.

Since then, Derick’s taken to various publications and interviewers to spill even more tea. He suggested that he and Jill felt pressured to film Counting On. And Derick suggested that Jim Bob’s lied to all of his kids who’ve taken part in Counting On when it comes to the money that’s made from the show. It seems Jim Bob may reap the benefits while his kids don’t make much from the program at all.

As for Jill, she hasn’t made any statements of her own about her family. But she’s quietly rebelling in her own way by spending plenty of time with her cousin, Amy Duggar, and sending her kids to public school.

Jim Bob looked shocked when Austin Forsyth asked permission to propose to Joy-Anna Duggar

There’s plenty to discuss when it comes to Jim Bob, Jill, and Derick. But now, we’re taking a look back at how some of the marriage proposal requests went down. Anyone who wants to marry a Duggar daughter must get approval from Jim Bob first. And the clip of Austin Forsyth asking for Jim Bob’s permission to get down on one knee for Joy-Anna Duggar shows Jim Bob’s typical reaction.

“Asking Mr. Jim Bob … it is a little nerve-wracking,” Austin told the cameras. And he then dove into talking to Jim Bob.

“I really know that the lord has brought Joy and I’s path together, and I’ve seen Him working first-hand,” Austin tells Jim Bob. “And I wanted to ask for your blessing for her hand in marriage.”

Jim Bob looked baffled by the question. “Austin, that’s a big step,” the father said back. “I think it was about a year ago that you came and asked me about just permission to get to know Joy on a closer friendship level. I can’t believe it’s already been a year.” Finally, after thinking through it all, Jim Bob eventually says yes.

Derick said Jim Bob likes to ‘draw out’ the proposal process

It looks like Jim Bob’s blessing process is well-known amongst the Duggar sons-in-law. And Derick even pops into the clip to give his opinion about Jim Bob’s process.

“So Jim Bob likes to kind of draw out the whole process whenever you ask him to marry one of his daughters,” Derick commented to the Counting On cameras.

It looks like Jessa Duggar’s husband, Ben Seewald, agreed as well. “He’ll look down, say, ‘Well …,'” Ben reenacted as Jim Bob. “I don’t know if he’s just having a little fun with the moment or he’s just genuinely thinking through it.”

Given how seriously the Duggars take marriage, we imagine Jim Bob really does think through each blessing to the fullest extent. And we’re not too sure if Jim Bob would give his blessing to Derick now considering everything Derick’s said. Will the father and son-in-law ever reconcile? We’ll have to wait and see.
