John Mulaney is one of the most well-liked comedians around. He deals with issues with respect, isn’t offensive, and is genuinely hilarious. And he used to constantly talk about his wife, who he was pretty devoted to through his stories in his sets, and his sobriety. And through the pandemic fans have rallied around him as his sobriety became a struggle and now that he and his wife, Anna Marie Tendler, are getting a divorce.

But Tendler has people behind her too. And she now revealed that she’s listening to a particular newly released album and digging it. Olivia Rodrigo’s Sour seems to really strike a chord with Tendler, and fans online love it.

Mulaney and Tendler got married in 2014 in a private ceremony that was officiated by friend and fellow comedian Dan Levy. Not Schitt’s Creek Dan Levy, but a different one. They’ve been together six years and shared a dog named Petunia who Mulaney has talked about in his sets in the past.

Back in December, as reported by Showbiz, Tendler came back from an Instagram break but had removed “Mulaney” from her name and removed traces of her then-husband from her profile. They also didn’t follow each other anymore. While this seems like a tiny detail, in the age of social media, this is kind of significant.

Then in May 2021, as Vanity Fair reported, the two announced their divorce.

“John will not have any further comment as he continues to focus on his recovery and getting back to work,” Mulaney’s rep said in a statement.

“I am heartbroken that John has decided to end our marriage,” Tendler’s spokesperson also said in her statement. “I wish him support and success as he continues his recovery.”

Tendler posted that she was listening to Olivia Rodrigo’s ‘Sour’ and joked that she wanted to ‘hang out’

Fast forward to May 24, and Tendler is all about moving on. Or at least moving in a different direction. On her Instagram story, she shared Rodrigo’s Instagram post about her debut album Sour, which dropped May 21. Above it, Tendler wrote, “Hey bestie, you wanna hang out?” And below it she wrote, “Listens to this album on repeat all summer.”

The day prior, Tendler also shared a photo to her Instagram that recreated George Harrison’s All Things Must Pass solo album cover. As Showbiz CheatSheet reported, one of the songs on the album is called “Isn’t it a Pity,” which was her caption, is about a breakup.

It goes, “Isn’t it a pity. Isn’t it a shame. How we break each other’s hearts. And cause each other pain. How we take each other’s love. Without thinking anymore. Forgetting to give back. Now isn’t it a pity.”

‘Sour’ is all about post-breakup anger and fans can’t get over Tendler’s Instagram story

Going back to Tendler’s love for Rodrgo, fans are living for it and honestly, can’t believe it’s real. Page Six reported on the Instagram story as well, but a TikTok has gone viral with over 122 thousand likes.

The TikTok has Rodrigo’s song “Brutal” playing in the background, which is all about youth and not feeling like you’re living up to it. How being young and a teen is disappointing or can be at times, and how it’s difficult to navigate her industry while navigating the ridiculous issues that come with being a teen in the first place.

Tendler didn’t share a favorite song, though. “Brutal” was just the song the TikToker chose. Regardless, fans couldn’t get over it. “THE FACT THAT THIS IS REAL-” one user wrote. “OMG JUST WENT TO CHECK IF IT WAS REAL AND IT IS HAHAHA” another commented. And the rest are kind of like that.

But, Tendler is like a lot of us that just loved the album; it’s good and brings back some youthful memories while also being a good debut album. It’s also a call out to the fact that Tendler is going through a breakup and Sour is all about that. From “Traitor” to “Happier,” there are some songs to choose from for someone getting over a heartbreak. Or jam out to and have a hot girl summer.
