As the final award of the evening, Batiste received the 2022 Grammy Award for Album of the Year. That was for his 2021 release We Are. (Batiste was also the artist with the most 2022 Grammy nominations.)

“Hey,” he shouted after receiving a standing ovation. “Wow. Thank you. You know I really I believe this to my core there is no best musician, best artist, best dancer, best actor — the creative arts are subjective.”

The artist continued, saying that music reaches people at a point in their lives when they need it the most. A song or an album has a radar and finds a person when they need it most. Lady Gaga nodded in agreement in the audience.

“I love music,” Batiste continued, saying that for him, it’s a spiritual practice. The artist said that he featured his grandfather and even his nephew in the album.

“Let’s just keep going, be you. That’s it. I love you, even if I don’t know you,” he said before wishing the audience a good night.
