Nearly 30 years have passed since Bill and Ted’s Bogus Journey. Yet the titular duo is back in Bill and Ted Face the Music. Apparently, it’s never too late for Alex Winter and Keanu Reeves to slip back into the roles that first made them famous back in 1989. But in a recent interview, Reeves admits he’s missed his chance to play his favorite Marvel superhero.

Keanu Reeves has played several iconic heroes on the big screen

Since his breakout role as Ted “Theodore” Logan in Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure, Reeves has played a ton of action heroes. Point Break, Speed, and The Matrix made him one of the most bankable leading men of the 1990s. Then, Reeves enjoyed a career resurgence with the unexpected success of 2014’s John Wick and its sequels.

At 55 years old, Reeves finds himself back in his action star heyday. Two more John Wick sequels are in the works. And he’s returning as Neo in 2022’s The Matrix 4. But with one actor after another finding their way into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, could Reeves find himself joining the MCU sometime soon?

The ‘John Wick’ star always wanted to play this Marvel superhero

On a recent appearance on the SiriusXM show Radio Andy, Reeves was asked whether he had any roles he would have loved to play in the past. And it didn’t take long for the Bill and Ted Face the Music star to admit he’d love to time-travel back to take on a certain Marvel mutant.

“I always wanted to play Wolverine. … Frank Miller’s Wolverine? For sure,” Reeves said, clarifying which version of the Marvel Comics character he would prefer. Frank Miller notably collaborated with Chris Claremont to give Wolverine his very first spinoff comic in the 1980s.

Reeves’ Bill and Ted co-star Alex Winter jumped in, explaining that it’s “not too late” for Reeves to take on Wolverine. But Reeves seems to have made peace with the fact that he never got the chance to fulfill his Marvel superhero dream. Instead, Hugh Jackman delivered an iconic turn.

Is it really too late for Reeves to play Wolverine in a Marvel movie?

Reeves claims he’s “good with [not playing Wolverine] now.” But is all hope really lost for him to play Wolverine? After all, the MCU is currently without one and will almost certainly need to introduce him at some point. And rumors continue to swirl that Marvel Studios is actively pursuing Reeves. Still, perhaps Reeves isn’t interested in another long-term franchise commitment.

Even so, the actor would be perfect as a Wolverine from another timeline, a future version of the character, or even the lead in a standalone spinoff. With John Wick putting him back on top, Reeves is almost an inevitable addition to a current superhero franchise. But will Marvel finally find him the right role, or will DC persuade him to return as John Constantine?
