Loki fans can finally breathe a sigh of relief as the long-awaited Marvel series dropped on Disney+ in June. Marvel’s Phase 4 started with a bang introducing new shows and developed storylines for its fans to enjoy.

Marvel has wowed audiences with shows like Falcon and the Winter Soldier and WandaVision, and now it’s the God of Mischief’s turn to keep viewers at the edge of their seats. The show stars actor Tom Hiddleston who reprised his role as the villain. But who else is in the Marvel series, and what characters do they play?

‘Loki’ continues the villain’s story after his 2012 escape

After the Avengers got arrested in 2012, a scuffle ensued, and they lost the tesseract. Loki made away with the Tesseract escaping the Avengers capture, and the series picks up from then. In the show, the titular character finds himself at the hands of the Time Variance Authority.

The TVA serves as the time masters who preserve the timeline and ensures no one messes up with it. In the trailers, viewers saw Loki imprisoned by the agency that calls him a ‘Loki variant.’ In one scene, Loki is thrown into a room where he signs a document that details everything he’s ever said.

It’s important to note that Loki died in Avengers: Infinity War. So when Marvel announced that it would be doing an entire series featuring the God of Mischief, fans assumed they would be telling his story as a flashback as they did with Black Widow. However, fans soon realize that Loki is set after the events in Avengers: Endgame, which ends up complicating the situation.

The gist of the story is that since Endgame mainly centered on time travel, the main characters, Tony Stark, Scott Lang, and Steve Rogers traveled back in time to 2012 when Loki had attacked New York City. Loki is eventually captured, but a slight flaw in their plan results in him escaping with the Tesseract. The Loki who escaped is the one fans see in the new series.

Who are the main actors in the series?

The show’s main cast includes Hiddleston, who has played Loki since the first Thor movie in 2011, Owen Wilson, who plays Agent Mobius M. Mobius, who convinces Loki to work with the TVA to capture Mystery Loki while preserving the timeline.

Other cast members include Gugu Mbatha-Raw who plays Ravonna Renslayer, a judge for the TVA. Wunmi Mosaku, plays Hunter B-15, a high-ranking TVA soldier who isn’t Loki’s biggest fan. The show also features Eugene Cordero, who plays Casey, a TVA member who Loki runs into as he tries to escape.

Cordero’s character is portrayed as friendly, but fans speculate there could be more to the character than the show’s first season lets on. Another trivial cast member is Tara Strong, who plays Miss Minutes, a narrator at the TVA. Actors Richard E. Grant and Sophia Di Martino have also joined the show in a mystery role, although many speculate that Di Martino could be the Mystery Loki giving the TVA a hard time.

Will viewers see Loki shapeshifting?

Throughout the years, Marvel has made it clear that Loki can shapeshift. This was evidenced when he assumed his father’s face in Thor: Ragnarök and when Thor said he once turned into a snake just for the fun of it.

Loki actor Hiddleston revealed to Empire that the show’s logo has different fonts to indicate his character’s shapeshifting abilities. However, the star teased that the show would not necessarily focus more on what the God of Mischief can turn to but more on how Loki would tackle the issue of identity.
