With the massive success of WandaVision and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, the Loki TV series has some big shoes to fill. But if those first two Marvel shows have proven anything, it’s that the Marvel Cinematic Universe isn’t playing around with this transition from films to series. Even though the format is quite different, it’s working well. So for this third time around, how many episodes will Loki have?

The ‘Loki’ TV series premieres June 9 on Disney+

Loki was originally supposed to premiere on June 11, which is a Friday like the first two Marvel TV series. However, Disney pulled a little Loki switcheroo, and it’s now premiering on June 9.

In an interview with Empire, star Tom Hiddleston spoke about what Loki will face. The series will take our favorite mischievous anti-hero and place him at the Time Variance Authority, where he must help fix the timeline he messed up.

“I think that shapeshifting logo might give you an idea that Loki, the show, is about identity, and about integrating the disparate fragments of the many selves that he can be, and perhaps the many selves that we are,” Hiddleston said. “I thought it was very exciting because I’ve always found Loki a very complex construct. Who is this character who can wear so many masks, and changes shape, and seems to change his external feeling on a sixpence?”

Remember, this isn’t the Loki post-Thor: Ragnarok, the one whom Thanos killed in Avengers: Infinity War. This is the Loki who stole the Tesseract post-New York fight — but in a new timeline.

How many episodes will the ‘Loki’ TV series have?

Loki is slated to have six episodes. According to ComicBook.com, Disney announced at the D23 Expo in 2019 that each episode will be an hour long.

In comparison, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier also had six episodes that hovered at around an hour each. WandaVision had nine episodes that ranged from around a half hour to almost an hour.

The Hawkeye TV series, which is due out later in 2021 and stars Jeremy Renner and Hailee Steinfeld, also is scheduled to have six episodes, according to Collider. And the upcoming animated Marvel Disney+ series What If…? will have 23 episodes.

Tom Hiddleston said it’s nice to play Loki in new scenarios

In a 2019 interview with MTV News, Hiddleston was gearing up to play the God of Mischief again for the Loki TV series. He talked about how it would be more than a decade in the role, yet he was still finding a new challenge in it.

“By the time it’s out, I’ll be 40. When I was cast I was 29, which is a great chunk of my life,” Hiddleston said. “There’s a sense of ‘I know this character now; I feel the audience knows him.’ Playing him and playing him truthfully — but presenting him with new challenges which then have to change him in different ways — is the most exciting aspect of it.”
