‘Outer Banks’: Chase Stokes, Madelyn Cline Hold Hands in Season 3 Images, Fans Have Mixed Feelings
Netflix released the first images from the Outer Banks Season 3 set, and fans quickly noticed the hand-holding going on between Chase Stokes and Madelyn Cline. The Outer Banks stars were previously a couple IRL, but ended their relationship in late 2021. Despite what the teaser images from season 3 might allude to, Outer Banks fans don’t think Stokes and Cline are back together. Here’s why.

Netflix shared two images from the set of Outer Banks season 3 to social media with the caption: “Time to get in a pogue state of mind… Outer Banks Season 3 is officially in production.” The official Outer Banks social media account and the cast also shared the season 3 images.
Many fans focused on former couple Stokes and Cline holding hands despite other Outer Banks stars, including Madison Bailey, Jonathan Daviss, Rudy Pankow, Drew Starkey, and Carlacia Grant also being in the images. Many assumed their gesture had something to do with their relationship status.
“So much for them breaking up,” commented a fan on Reddit. “It wouldn’t surprise me if they are back together,” said another Redditor. “Who knows.”
‘Outer Banks’ fans think Chase Stokes and Madelyn Cline are in character in the season 3 images, not back together
While some fans think the photos might contain a hint about Stokes and Cline’s relationship outside of the Netflix series, others assume the actors are in character as John B. and Sarah Cameron. “Pretty sure this is just for the show and they’re in character,” reads another comment in the thread. “But who knows maybe they did get back together wouldn’t be surprised.”
Another fan was quick to point out: “If they are were in character, Rafe [Starkey] wouldn’t be on JJ’s [Pankow] back.” Another Redditor addressed the cast being “in character” more specifically, writing:
“I think by ‘in character’ they’re talking more about publicity. Like ‘Hey look! Our cast all gets along!’ The photo is basically them putting forwards a statement to convey that there’s no bad blood (at least publicly).”
Considering John B. and Sarah Cameron are still a couple in the Outer Banks storyline, the actors being “in character” in the photos is feasible.
‘Outer Banks’ cast is filming season 3, but there’s no release date yet
On Feb. 13, 2022, Outer Banks director Valerie Weiss shared a cast and crew photo to Instagram with the caption: “Big love to my @obx family as they begin shooting Season 3 tomorrow!!!! See ya’ll soon.”
Many fans were excited to learn production on Outer Banks Season 3 began. There hasn’t been an update about when Netflix will release new episodes at publication. But there has been speculation about when filming will wrap. What’s On Netflix estimates Outer Banks Season 3 will be done filming on Aug. 19, 2022.
Because the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic is still at play, there could be some delays like there were filming Outer Banks Season 2. But for now, fans are hopeful production will stick to the estimated schedule.
