Fans have anxiously awaited any news regarding Peaky Blinders Season 6. Now, it looks like Netflix fans can anticipate the Shelby family returning sometime in 2021 or 2022 — and we can’t wait to see what’s in store for the gangsters as the series comes to a close. Rumors suggest season 6 will air quite soon, too. Here’s what’s going on.

Peaky Blinders Season 6 is sure to have plenty of twists and turns just as every season prior had. The series follows the Shelby family living in Birmingham, England, in the aftermath of World War I. Cillian Murphy plays Thomas Shelby, the leader of the family gang. He’s faced off with a number of other gang leaders and criminals through every season, and he manages to pull through to give the Shelbys money and status despite the deep complexities of the family.

So, what will happen in season 6? According to Deadline, show creator Steven Knight confirmed season 6 is the show’s last — but the series will continue on in another form. “Covid changed our plans,” Knight told Deadline. “But I can say that my plan from the beginning was to end Peaky with a movie. That is what is going to happen.”

While it doesn’t sound like film plans are finalized, that’s certainly the direction the show will head after season 6 concludes. With that in mind, will season 6 end on a cliffhanger that the movie will pick up on? We’ll have to wait and see what the creators decide.

Rumors suggest season 6 will air in September 2021

So, when will fans get to see Peaky Blinders Season 6? It’s still unconfirmed when the season will air. But some rumors suggest fans will see season 6 beginning at the end of September 2021. According to Geo News, unconfirmed reports state the last week of September is when fans will get to see the first episodes. The Peaky Blinders Twitter account also confirmed the show began filming in January 2021.

While we’re hopeful we’ll get to see season 6 in September 2021, it’s also important to keep in mind it took production 16 months to complete season 5. Given this timeline, we might not see season 6 until May 2022. But the Peaky Blinders Twitter also noted they finished filming, so perhaps fans won’t have to wait too much longer.

As is the case for many shows, coronavirus (COVID-19) threw a wrench into production plans. Creators also had more than six seasons in the works at one point. Town & Country notes Knight said he wanted to have at least seven seasons of the show, but plans changed.

So, who will fans get to see in Peaky Blinders Season 6? Thrillist notes Murphy is signed on to return as Thomas, and the other Shelbys will likely return, too. That means we’ll see Paul Anderson return as Arthur Shelby, Sophie Rundle as Ada Thorne, Finn Cole as Michael Gray, and Harry Kirton as Finn Shelby. Natasha O’Keeffe will likely return as Lizzie Stark. And, of course, we’ll see a wealth of new actors join the set, like Stephen Graham.

Alfie Solomons, played by Tom Hardy, is another fan favorite from the series. Season 5 revealed Alfie’s alive and living on the seaside after Tommy shot him. While including him in future seasons is assuredly fan service, we’re betting he makes a few cameos in season 6.

What about Aunt Polly? Helen McCrory played Polly Gray, and she died in April 2021 from cancer. Express notes the creators intended for Polly to make it all the way to the end of series. And McCrory also noted she wanted to “see it through to the end” when it came to the show. But McCrory reportedly wasn’t spotted on the set for season 6, so there’s a chance she’s not featured in the series at all. We’ll have to wait and see if the show creators include any footage of her they may have accrued prior to her death.

Netflix did not return a request for comment regarding Peaky Blinders Season 6 rumors by the time of publication.
