‘Secret Invasion’: Will Chloe Bennet Be in the New Marvel Series?

Ever since Chloe Bennet left 'The Powerpuff Girls' series because of scheduling conflicts, fans have speculated that she will reprise her Marvel character in the new series, 'Secret Invasion.' Bennet took to Instagram to set the record straight regarding her involvement in the project.

No one ever claimed that Marvel fans were not passionate. Rumors of Chloe Bennet’s return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe have run amuck among fans, especially when talking about the upcoming Marvel Disney+ series Secret Invasion. They have persisted that Chloe Bennet will reprise her role as Daisy Johnson, aka Quake, from Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. in the new show because of Quake’s history in the “Secret Invasion” comic books. Bennet finally addressed the speculation, and, unfortunately, she did not deliver the best news.

What is ‘Secret Invasion’?

Secret Invasion is an upcoming Marvel Disney+ series based in the MCU. The show will pull inspiration directly from the 2008 “Secret Invasion” comic book crossover. In the story, the Skrulls, shape-shifting aliens, invaded Earth and secretly replaced many superheroes.

Samuel L. Jackson will reprise his role as Nick Fury in the series. And Ben Mendelsohn will return as Talos, a Skrull. The rest of the announced cast include Kingsley Ben-Adir, Olivia Colman, Emilia Clarke, Killian Scott, and Christopher McDonald in undisclosed roles. Secret Invasion will consist of six episodes and premiere sometime in 2022. The show is a part of Phase Four of the MCU. Filming is currently underway for the series.

A part of why fans believe that Chloe Bennet will be in Secret Invasion is because Nick Fury recruited her Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. character, Quake, in the comics to lead a team to defend Earth from the Skrulls.

Chloe Bennet claims that she is not attached to ‘Secret Invasion’

Per TVLine, Chloe Bennet took to Instagram on Sept. 22 to finally set the record straight regarding her involvement in Secret Invasion. Bennet posted her response to the speculation in a video on her Instagram story.

She said, “I am in no way attached or involved, even at all or a little bit, in the Secret Invasion Marvel thing. I honestly don’t even know what that is.” Bennet went on to explain that she thought the hype “would maybe blow over… but it has not. It’s gotten to the point where every day I’m getting hundreds of messages about this” and “getting approached in person — today it was in the tampon aisle at Target — so I figured I would clear the air.”

Chloe Bennet adamantly denied any involvement in Secret Invasion, destroying the hopes of Marvel fans everywhere. Of course, there’s always the possibility that Bennet is trying to throw people off the Secret Invasion scent. Marvel probably consists of the most secretive group of people in Hollywood. But, for now, we will have to take Bennet’s word for it and definitely not approach her when she’s trying to buy tampons at Target.

Chloe Bennet’s future in Marvel is a question mark

Ever since Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. ended in Aug. 2020, Marvel fans have pleaded for Chloe Bennet to return to the MCU as Daisy Johnson. Her character’s ending in the show opened the door to reprise her role in future films or television shows. In the finale, Daisy was working with a S.H.I.E.L.D. team stationed in space (S.W.O.R.D. anyone?), with her boyfriend, Daniel Sousa, and her sister, Kora.

So, one can see why fans want Daisy in Secret Invasion so severely. It just makes sense given the ending of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Plus, Bennet recently pulled out of the live-action Powerpuff Girls television show due to scheduling conflicts. If she’s not in Secret Invasion, perhaps she’s attached to a different Marvel project.

Fans can only hope that Bennet will return to her Marvel roots and continue Quake’s story.
